It was my first day at school. I felt nervous. I went to all my classes with no friends. I felt like no one cared.

I listened carefully to all the lessons and waited for lunch time at one o’clock. Then, finally, the bell rang. It was time to talk and have fun.

In the lunch line I met a new friend from Arabia(阿拉伯), and though I am Jewish, we got along well. I was so happy when she said, “Sit with us at our table.” She showed me the table next to the door.

So I agreed. I took my dish and was going to walk with her across the floor, when suddenly someone stopped me. “Hey, I saw you on the bus,” said a tall girl in a long skirt. “I see your Jewish star necklace(项链). You should sit with us.”

At that moment I looked around. The Spanish only sat with other Spanish, the Russians always with Russians and never the Arabs with the Jews.

I knew why wars(战争) started. Everyone sticks to(坚持) his or her own kind. The lunchroom was like a map of the world. Why was everyone so blind(盲从)?

And so I didn’t go with this tall girl, but went with the first, and she was friendly to me. I built a bridge between two worlds when I sat with those different from me.

BEIJING—Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has visited the "left-behind"(留守) children whose parents are working in cites before Children's Day.
During a visit to northwest China's Shanxi Province, Wen visited the home of Yang Saike, a primary school boy in a village of Xingping City.
Yang, whose parents were working in Fujian, thousands of kilometers away, was cared for by his grandparents. His parents failed to go home even once a year.
The Premier held Yang in his arms and looked through his exercise book and praised him for his hard work.

"Have you been to school yet?" Wen asked two other girls.
"We are going to the pre-school class," said one.
"Mom and Dad at home?" Wen asked. The children shook their heads.
"Children cannot see their parents very often, which is a new problem in the countryside. We should give them more care and love." said the premier.
“With fast economic(经济的) development, more people in the country chose to work in cities and left their children with grandparents or relatives back home.” said Wen.

There are 365 days in a year. We sleep 8 hours a day, so we have 122 days for sleeping. Then our work time has 243 days left. But there are 52 weekends in a year. Each weekend is two days. We lose another 104 days a year for work. It takes us about one hour to have breakfast and supper. This comes to 15 days over a year. But we can't work all that time. We need a holiday. Let's say we have three weeks' holiday. We don't work all day. Four free hours each evening takes up 61 days. We have to remember that we get 2 days' holiday at Easter, 3 at Christmas and 1 at the New Year. There are also 4 Bank holidays. Take those 10 days away and we have 32 days for work. But then we have one and a half hours' lunch every day, and half an hour's coffee break. That comes to 30 days a year. This means that we have only a few days left for work every year!
