Once upon a time, there was a man who married a proud and selfish woman as his second wife. She had two daughters, who were not kind too. By his first wife, the man had a beautiful young daughter, a girl with goodness and sweet heart. The stepmother and her daughters forced the first daughter to do chores. After the girl's chores were done for the day, she couldn’t have a good rest, she would only get near the fireplace to stay warm. So she would often be found covered in cinders(灰), then she was given a name "Cinderella". But Cinderella never told her father, since his wife controlled him entirely.

She then turned Cinderella's rags（旧衣服） into a beautiful clothes, complete with a delicate pair of glass slippers.
