Simon Reeve has visited many countries and has become one of our most popular TV travel-show presenters (½ÚÄ¿Ö÷³ÖÈË). His programs are different from other ones because he goes to unusual countries and he shows us more than the tourist attractions (ÂÃÓξ°µã). From his programs, we also learn about the people in the countries, the way of life and the wildlife. I asked him about his work.

(Q=Question; A=Answer)

Q: 1.

A: I started to work as a TV presenter in 2003. Before that, I was a reporter and writer. In my first travel show, I visited countries in central Asia, such as Kazakhstan.

Q: 2.

A: I¡¯ve made nine travel TV series (µçÊÓϵÁнÚÄ¿). In three of those shows, I traveled around the world in a circle (ԲȦ)¡ªthey were very long journeys! In my most recent series, I went to Australia.

Q: 3.

A: Perhaps you should ask which countries I haven¡¯t visited! I think I¡¯ve traveled to more than 110 countries, but I haven¡¯t been to the North and South Poles. Perhaps I¡¯ll go soon.

Q: 4.

A: Ah, one of my favorite places is the Kalahari Desert in southern Africa. I went there in 2007. It¡¯s really beautiful and a lot greener than a typical desert. I met the San people there, and I learned a lot from them.

Q: 5.

A: The most important thing that I¡¯ve learned is that human beings are very special animals. We can change and live in any environment. Also, in all these different places, with all these different ways of life, our children are always the most important things for us.

A peacock (¿×ȸ) and a tortoise (¹ê) were good friends. One day, a bird catcher caught the peacock and was going to sell him on the market. The peacock asked the bird catcher to allow him to say goodbye to his friend the tortoise. The bird catcher agreed.

The tortoise asked the bird catcher to let the peacock go, but he refused. The tortoise then said, ¡°If I give you a nice gift, will you let my friend go?¡± ¡°Certainly,¡± answered the bird catcher.

So the tortoise jumped into the river and after some time, he came up with a big pearl (ÕäÖé). The bird catcher was so surprised. He was so happy that he let the peacock go.

A few days later, the bird catcher came back to the tortoise. He thought he didn¡¯t get enough for letting the peacock go. He told the tortoise that he would catch the peacock again unless he got another big pearl.

The tortoise knew his friend the peacock went to a safe place. ¡°Well,¡± said the tortoise, ¡°please return the pearl that I gave you and I will come back with two.¡±

The bird catcher thought for some time and gave the pearl to the tortoise. Then the tortoise swam away and said, ¡°I am not so stupid to take one and give two!¡± The bird catcher could only stand by the river and feel sorry for being greedy (Ì°À·µÄ).
