There is a little boy named Mark. He hopes he could fly like a bird. His parents tell him, “Dear, you can’t fly.” “Why can’t I? Some birds in the zoo are very big, but they can fly.” The boy can’t understand.

There is another little boy named Barry. He is crippled(跛脚的). He wishes he could walk and run like other children.

“Why can’t I walk or run like other children?” Barry asks his father. His father doesn’t know what to say.

One day, the two boys meet in a park.

“Do you want to fly like a bird?” Mark asks Barry.

“No,” Barry says. “ I just wish I could walk and run like you.”

Mark thinks for a minute, walks to Barry’s father and says something into his ear.

“That’s OK,” says the father.

Mark goes to Barry and says, “Get onto my back. Let’s run together.” Then Mark carries Barry and begins to run. He runs faster and faster. He runs across the park with Barry on his back. The crippled boy flaps(拍打) his arms up and down in the wind. He shouts at the top of his voice, “We’re flying, Mark! We’re flying!”

Expert(专家) say that students usually need eight to ten hours’ sleep at night, but most Chinese students do not get enough sleep. Some Chinese parents are usually glad to see their children studying late. They will think their children work very hard, but not all parents are happy about this. Once a mother told us tat every morning her 10-year-old boy put up one finger (手指)with his eyes still closed, begging(请求) for one more minute to sleep. Like thousands of students “ early birds” in China, he has to get up before six every morning.

A report shows that without a good night’s sleep, students seem to be weaker (虚弱)than they should be. Many students have fallen asleep during class at one time or another. Too much homework is not the only reason why students stay up late. Some watch TV or play the computer games late into the night.

Experts have ever said that the students should develop good study habits. So some clever students never study last, they are able to work well in class.

Is reading better than watching TV? I believe it is. Is reading better than playing video games? I’m not so sure if it is. If learning is important to you, but not necessary so,and if pleasure is what you want, these activities can be pleasant in their own way. Reading might be better than many activities if you want to educate yourself and improve your chances of succeeding in your work.

If you’re serious about creating the habit of reading, what’s important is finding a time you can read every day—often that’s early morning or late at night,or both. For others, it might be during their lunch break. You only need to read for 10 to 20 minutes a day to form the habit.

Then, you need to find a place that’s comfortable. Make sure it has good lighting, the temperature is nice and you’re in a good chair. Or you can find some place that you can relax in without falling asleep, although there’s nothing wrong with sleep.

Next,be sure to shut off the TV,Internet, cell phone, radio, or other music. Let reading be a quiet time. Mark an “x” on your calendar every day you read, and try to keep your unbroken “x”es going as long as possible. A habit is much easier to form if it’s something you enjoy, not something you are made to do. So make the time, you spend reading a joy. I’ve been a lifelong reader, so the pleasure of a good book is one of my favorite things in the world. I love to lose myself in the world of a book.
