There is probably no better symbol of spring than flowers. The peach blossom (桃花) is one of those seasonal flowers. It usually blooms (开花) in March and April. Pinggu district in Beijing, Nanhui county in Shanghai and Longquan Mountain in Chengdu are all good places to enjoy the beautiful peach blossoms. But if they are not special enough for you, you may go to Nyingchi (林芝) in Tibet. There you can see a sea of pink at the foot of snow-covered mountains under a blue sky.

The peach blossom, with its beauty, has won the hearts of visitors as well as many Chinese poets and writers. From China’s first book of poetry, the Classic of Poetry (《诗经》), to the many poems of the Tang Dynasty, the peach blossom is usually connected to beautiful young ladies. As one famous poem goes, “In this house on this day last year a pink face vied;In beauty with the pink peach blossom side by side (去年今日此门中,人面桃花相映红).” The peach blossom makes people think of the flush (红晕) on a shy woman’s face.

Because of this, the peach blossom is connected to romance in China. Chinese people often say “to have peach blossom luck”. It means being lucky in love. And if your eyes are in the shape of peach petals(花瓣), you have a pair of taohuayan(桃花眼). And you probably have peach blossom luck.

Do you want to know anything about staying in America? Well, Let me tell you the truth, it is really an eye-opening experience to study here.

In China, I had English classes five times a week since the fifth grade. However didn’t know textbook English was very different from everyday English until I came to Hotchkiss School, Connecticut.

When I first studied English, I was told to say,“I am fine” when people say “How are you?” But in the US, I found that people say, “I am good” or “I am tired.”

One day, someone greeted me with “What’s up?” It made me confused. I thought for a moment and then smiled because I didn’t know what to say. Since then, I have discovered more and more differences between Chinese and the US cultures. To my surprise, the US girls spend a lot of time in burning sun getting a tan (晒黑). However, in China, girls try every possible way to get their skin paler(白的).

I am also surprised by how hardworking the US students are. In China, schoolwork is almost everything, so we study hard all the time. But here, an “excellent” student gets good grades, does a lot for the public and plays sports or music .The kids here are so talented,I am starting to be sorry that I gave up playing the piano at an early age and that I have never thought about sports.
