London FogIt was a very foggy day in London. The fog was so thick that it is impossible to see more than a foot or so. Mr. Smith had a very important meeting at the House of Commons (英国议会下院) and had to get there but no one could take him there. He tried to walk there but found he was quite lost. Suddenly he bumped (撞上) into a stranger. The stranger asked if he could help him. Mr. Smith said he wanted to go to the House of Parliament (英国议会) . The stranger told him he would take him there. Mr. Smith thanked him and they started to walk there. The fog was getting thicker every minute but the stranger had no difficulty in finding the way. After I had spent a week-with my English family, I 1 began to understand their English a little better. It's very different from what I learned at school! Students in my group are from different cities of Britain and their dialects (方言) are 2 too! Some of their accents (方言) are quite strong 3 they also have their own words and expressions. But it's not the 4 that's different and surprising. Before I came to England I had thought that fish and chips were eaten every day. That's quite 5 ! I get rather mad now when I hear all the foolish words about typical (传统的) English food. I had expected to 6 "London fog". Do you remember our texts 7 it? We had no idea that most of this "thick fog" disappeared many years ago when people stopped using coal in their homes. But the idea to speak about weather was very 8 . The weather in London is really changeable. What is ordinary for all British is that they follow traditions. Probably Britain has more 9 signs of its past than many other countries. And people have always been 10 of having ancient buildings in capitals, big cities and the countryside. | ||
