题目内容
The clock struck(敲) eleven at night. The whole house was quiet. Everyone was in bed except me. Under the strong light, I looked sadly at a huge pile(堆) of those trouble things —books.
I was going to have my exam the next day. “When can I go to bed?” I asked myself. I didn’t answer. And I could not. The clock struck twelve. “Oh, dear! Ten more books to read before I go to bed!” We students are the most wretched ones in the world. Dad does not agree with me on this. He did not have to work so hard when he was a boy.
The clock struck one. I was quite hopeless now. I forgot all I did learn. I was too tired to go on. I did the only thing I could. I prayed(祈祷), “My god, please let me pass the exam tomorrow. I will work hard next time, Amen.” My eyes were so heavy that I could hardly open them. A few minutes later, with my head on the books, I fell asleep.

He entered Mrs. Owen’s class. She was smiling, and saying hello to all her students as she did every morning.
“Hi, Sam!” she said as he walked in.
“Hi,” he said and quickly sat in his seat. Then the class began to take their spelling test. He looked at the clock. The time was near. He hoped he was not first! Mrs. Owens said it was time to begin their special day.
“Sam, you’ll be first.” Mrs. Owens said to the class, “Sam has worked very hard on his report on Hawaii, and I know it is very interesting.”
Sam nervously greeted his class. Then, he thought about the fun things he had read about surfing, volcanoes, and pineapples in Hawaii, and he started to talk. Imagine there is a bank that puts $ 86, 400 in your account ( 账户)each morning. It carries over no balance from day to day. Every evening the bank writes off( 注销)the balance that you failed to use during the day. What would you do? Take out every cent, of course \
Each of us has such a bank. Its name is TIME. Every morning, it puts in 86, 400 seconds. Every evening it writes off, as it is lost. There is no balance or overdraft 透支) . If you fail to use the day’s savings, the lost is yours. There is no going back. There is no taking from " tomorrow". You must make good use of it so as to get more in health, happiness and success!
The clock is running. Make the most of today. To realize the value of ONE YEAR, ask a student who failed a grade; To realize the value of ONE MONTH, ask a mother who gave birth to a premature( 早产)baby; To realize the value of ONE WEEK, ask the editor of a weekly newspaper; To realize the value of ONE HOUR, ask the lovers who are waiting to meet; To realize the value of ONE MINUTE, ask a person who missed the train; To realize the value of ONE SECOND, ask a person who just avoided(避免)an accident.
Make good use of every moment that you have. Remember that time waits for no one. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That’s why it’s called "The Present".
