We often reach a point in our life when we should be ready for change that will help us unlock (解锁)our self-improvement power. However, there's always something staring at us right under our nose but we don't see it. The only time we think of unlocking our self-improvement power is when everything gets worst.

When do we realize that we need to change diets? When none of our shirts and jeans would fit us .When do we stop eating candies and chocolates? When all of our teeth have fallen off. When do we realize that we need to stop smoking? When our lungs (肺)have gone bad. We see the warning signs and signals when things get rough and difficult.

The only time most of us ever learn about unlocking our self-improvement power is when the whole world is falling apart. We think and feel this way because it is not easy to change, but change becomes more painful when we ignore(忽视) it.

Change will happen, like it or hate it. At one point or another, we are all going to finally unlock our self-improvement power not because the world says so. But because we realize it,'s for our own good.

Happy people don' t just accept change; they embrace(拥抱)it. Unlocking our self-improvement power means unlocking ourselves out of the box of thought that is just the way we are. It is such a poor excuse for people who fear change.

Jane always tells everyone that she doesn't have the courage(勇气)to be around groups of people She heard her family tell the same things about her to other people. Over the years, that is what Jane has believed. Every time a great crowd comes, she steps back and locks herself up in a room. Jane not only believes in her story, but lives it!

Self-improvement may not be everybody's favorite word, but if we look at things in a different way, we might have greater chances of enjoying the whole process(过程)instead of counting the days until we are fully improved Three sessions in a week at the gym would result in a healthier life .Reading books every day would build up knowledge. And only when we are enjoying the whole process of unlocking our self-improvement power will we realize that were beginning to take things light and become happy.

My husband, my four-month-old daughter and I set out on a five day driving journey from California to Washington. We had to stop frequently because our little child needed to stretch from the car seat.

One of our stops, once we crossed the Oregon border, was at a Black Bear Diner. Walking towards the front door we noticed a gentleman standing at one side. He was clearly untidy, without shoes and wearing worn clothing. We passed right by him and opened the restaurant door. Then something told me to go back.

Holding my daughter, I turned around and said to the gentleman, "Sir. Are yon hungry?" He said, "Yes." I then asked, "May we buy you something to eat?" He responded with, “Sure, I can order something myself."

My husband opened the door and the gentleman went straight to the counter. I told him to order whatever he wanted. The manager of the restaurant came over quite quickly and looked frightened. I spoke before he had an opportunity to. “This gentleman will have lunch with us today,” I said. “Please add his order to our bill.” The manager said with a frown(皱眉), “Okay.” We turned to our table and the gentleman said loudly and quickly, " Thank You!" We were seated and upon completing our meal we were handed our bill. I asked my husband what the gentleman had ordered, one fresh orange juice, one coffee, one breakfast combination with a side of hash browns.

When we left the restaurant I looked for the gentleman but didn't see him, but that very small act just made my day. I hope in some small way we were able to add some joy to his life, even if only for a few minutes.

ELVIS PRESLEY is considered as one of the most famous musicians in modern times. Imagine you could talk to the King of Rock and Roll(摇滚乐之父). Imagine he hadn’t died. Well, read on!

(Reporter= R, Elvis Presley=E)

R: So Elvis, you were born on 8 th January 1935, weren’t you?

E: Yes, that’s right. I was born in a place called Mississippi(密西西比).

R: Mississippi’s pretty famous, isn’t it?

E: Yes. Mostly because people find it difficult to spell!

R: So, tell me something about your childhood. Life wasn’t easy, was it?

E: No, not really. We were a poor family. My father was a milkman, so he didn’t make much money. I was the only kid who went to school with no shoes on. After I left school, I became a part-time(兼职的) truck driver.

R: But it was your father who bought you your first instruction(乐器), wasn’t it?

E: No, actually it was my mum. She bought me on my 10th birthday. I’ll never forget that. I’ll never forget my mother.

R: She died when you were quite young, didn’t she?

E: I was 24 when she died.

R: You’re always liked listening to rock and roll, haven’t you?

E: Yes. I grew up loving music. I listened to blue, pop and gospel music. I love any type of music, especially loud music and of course, rock and roll is always my favorite.

R: You haven’t always had your own recording studio(录音室), have you?

E: No, I made my first record in a studio owned by someone else. That was in 1954.

R: People say your music has changed as you’ve grown older. It’s become a bit more commercial(商业化), hasn’t it?

E: I don’t know. People say all kinds of things about me. They say I’ve put on weight, too. I’m not too fat, am I?

R: It doesn’t really matter. You’ll always be the greatest musical artist of the 20th century, however much you weigh!
