Instead of gobbling(狼吞虎咽) your food, try eating more slowly. It may help you drop those unwanted pounds. The conclusion is from a new study by Chinese researcher.

The study showed that compared with people who gobbled their food, those who ate at a normal speed were 29 percent less likely to be obese(肥胖的). But those who ate slowly were up to 42 percent less likely to obese. In addition, people who ate slowly tended (往往会) to be healthier and have a healthier lifestyle than those who ate quickly or at a normal speed. “However, this study could not prove that speed eating causes or stops obesity,” the researcher noted.

"Slow eating has its advantages and a few disadvantages ,” said Samantha Heller from New York City. “on the one hand , slow eating gives our body time to register a sense of satisfaction and fullness, so we eat less. We are more likely to enjoy a taste of food. On the other hand, the longer people sit in front of food, the more food they will eat, ”she said.

“Speed eating appears to be far more harmful. People who eat quickly, as many of us do, gobble far more food than they need. In many European countries, slow eating is a way of life,” Heller said. In America, speed eating takes the lead. Thus we need to encourage people to have a change, learn the way of slower eating from Europeans and get a true enjoyment of food.

Are you nearsighted(近视)? Do you wear glasses? Many of you may say "yes". In fact, according to a report from the World Health Organization, China has the biggest population of nearsighted young people. More than 70%of middle school students in China are nearsighted.

In August, a plan to solve this problem was introduced. It aims to cut down the rate(率)of nearsightedness for middle school students to less than 60% by 2030. Schools across the country are taking action to meet this goal.

Luoyang Experimental School in Henan started with its desks. It has made desks with a board above the desktop. The board stops students from lowering their heads too close to their desktops. More than 400 students have used them so far. More students will use them soon. Similarly, the High School Affiliated to Remain University Chaoyang Branch School is now providing desks and chairs according to students' heights. Studies have shown that proper desk height can stop nearsightedness.

Spending more time outside can also reduce nearsightedness. Chengdu No. 7 High School makes sure that its students play outside for at least 80 minutes every day. "We have a PE class and a 20-minute break in the morning and afternoon to do exercises.”said Sun Zihan,l4.

Staring(凝视)at screens can also hurt our eyes. Beijing 101 Middle School has a solution to this problem. In its classrooms, there are special boxes for storing students' cell phones. "We have to hand in our cell phones every morning and get them back after school," said Huang Jiameng,15.
