In the earthquake, a father left his wife safely at home and rushed to the school where his son was supposed
to be, only to discover (发现) that the building was as flat as a pancake.
He was surprised at what he saw, but he suddenly remembered the promise (承诺) he had made to his son:
"No matter what happens, I'll always be there for you!" And tears began to fill his eyes. He began to think of the
place where his son's classroom might be. He rushed there and started digging through the ruins (废墟). As he
was digging, other parents tried to pull him off, saying, "It's too late! They are all dead! You can't help! Go home!
There is nothing you can do!" But he only replied, "Are you going to help me now?" And then he continued to dig
for his son, stone by stone. The policemen also tried to pull him off and asked him to go home. But he only replied,
"Are you going to help me now?" But everyone was sure it was over. No one helped. He went on alone to see if
his son was still alive, 8 hours… 12 hours… 36 hours… then, in 38th hour, he pulled back a big stone and heard
his son's voice. He screamed, "Armand!" He then heard, "Dad, it's me. I told the other kids not to worry. I told
them if you were alive, you'd save me and when you saved me, they'd be saved! You have promised
no matter what happens, you will always be there for me! You did it, Dad!"

How I study English
I often hear some students say English is difficult, and it gives them a headache. So they can’t learn it well. But English is very easy for me. I’m good at it. I’m very glad to tell you something about how I study English.
First, I think an interest(爱好)in English is very important. When I was in Grade One, we had a new subject – English. It was fresh for me . I was interested in it, so I worked hard at it. Soon we had an English exam and I got a very good mark. How happy I was! After that, I learned English harder and harder. Our English teacher often teaches us English songs, the songs sound nice. I often think how interesting English is!
Second, I think English is a foreign language. I should learn it well in the following ways: Listen to the teacher carefully, speak bravely, read aloud and have a good vocabulary(词汇). Then practice again and again, never be tired. And I also have a good habit: Asking whenever(不论何时)I have a question, I must make it clear by asking our English teacher. How happy I am when I understand!
Besides this, I often read English stories, jokes and easy novels. From these I know English is not only interesting, but also useful. They help me understand a lot of things. So to do more reading is an important way to learn English well.
And I also do some exercises from our class magazines, and I often write English diaries. English has become a close friend of mine.

Now the most important thing is money. You should take about £30 in cash (现金) and about £200 in travelers cheques (支票). Then when you arrive at the airport you'll be met by our host (主人) family. You must remember to wear a red shirt so the family will find you easily. I've told them to look out for the red shirts. You'll also need to take with you 4 photos of yourself and, of course, it's very important that you take the school letter. While you are there, if you have any problems, you can call our agent (代理人). I'll give you her office phone number now. It's 580-4436 and the person to ask for is Mrs.Belcher, that's B-E-L-C-H-E-R. She's in the office from 9-5 every day. OK! That's everything. Have a good trip.
