　　Once upon a time a king had a son. The King, Uther Pendragon called his son Arthur. One day, Merlin, an old magician(术士)came to his friend the king. On that day Merlin brought bad news. “Soon you will die, my king, and all the knights (骑士) in the land will want power(政权) ---- they will want to become the new king! They will try to kill your son. He must come and live with me, and when he is older he will return and be king. ”

　　Everything happened just as Merlin had said. The king died and there were years of war between the knights. Many people died.

　　One day Merlin called the knights for a meeting. They were tired of (厌倦) all the wars and were all there. Merlin said,“We need a strong king, stronger than all the kings before him! ”The knights agreed. “But how can we decide who will be the new king?”one of the knights asked.

　　Merlin looked at them and pointed(指)to a stone(石头)behind him. In this stone there was a large sword (剑). He spoke, “The man who can take this sword from the stone will be the new king!”

　　After that, people from all over the country came and tried to take the sword from the stone ---- all of them were the biggest ,strongest men in the country. But no one could do it. Then one day, Merlin brought a young man to the sword in the stone. This man took the sword ,and it came out of the stone easily.

　　Merlin said, “He is your new king !”But some of the knights didn't like this and didn't accept (承认) Arthur as king. There were more battles, but soon all the knights accepted Arthur as their king, except one ---- the Black Knight.
