A young man was leaning against the door of his house and eating his cakes slowly. Just then he saw an old man leading a donkey (驴) down the street. He was going to make fun of the old man. When the old man and his donkey were passing by his door, he said politely, “Hello, would you please have a cake if you are hungry?” “It’s very kind of you, but I have had my meal. Thank you all the same,” answered the old man. “Oh, no!” the young man waved his hand and said, “But I am speaking to the donkey, not to you. You misunderstood me.”  Hearing that, the old man beat the donkey on the face and said angrily, “You silly donkey! You’ve become so dishonest (不诚实的). You just told me that you had no friends in this city. But why does this gentleman ask you to eat cakes if he isn’t your friend.” With that the old man got on his donkey and went away. The young man stood there alone. His face turned as red as a turkey cock.
