One of the premier medical scientists in the 2lst century is Zhong Nanshan. Born in Nanjing and graduated from Beijing Medical College, this ordinary but great man has been working in the medical field for over 40 years. He is a good doctor in the patients' eyes and a kind medical professor in his students' hearts as well.

In the spring of 2003, the SARS epidemic broke out in China and across the globe. Zhong Nanshan not only led but also took an active part in the battle against SARS.

In early 2020, a more terrible virus--the novel coronavirus(新冠病毒)affected people around the world. At first, no onc really knew much about it and most people had no natural defenses(防护)against the disease. Years had gone by and Dr. Zhong was as old as Santa Claus. Yet, at the age of 84, he fought on the frontline(前线)along with the nation's best medical team. Dangerous as it was, Zhong Nanshan worked hard day and night treating COVID-19 patients. Meanwhile, he underlined the fact that teamwork among nations could save lives. He was there when the people needed him most. Now the world had known his name, the incredible hero Zhong. But Dr. Zong said, “I am just a doctor.”

Imagine you are in a jumping contest。 Animals and insects can also enter this contest. But they might just leave humans in the dust!

The first event is the long jump. The human athlete is Mike Powell. In 1991, he jumped nearly 30 feet, which is the world record for the long jump. That is about five times his own height.

His competitor in the long-jump contest is a frog named "Rosie the Ribbiter" Rosie set the world record for frogs in 1986 by jumping more than 21 feet. Her record has never been broken by any other frog. Compared to Mike Powell, Rosie's jump is not that amazing. But wait! Rosie is only about 10 inches long when her legs are stretched (伸展) to their full length. She can jump more than 25 times her size. Rosie, the frog, wins the long jump event.

The next event is the high jump. Javier Sotomayor, the world record holder, can jump a bar (横杆) 8 feet high. That is about as high as the ceiling in most homes.

Looking around for someone to challenge his record, Javier might need a magnifying glass (放大镜),The next contestant is a tiny insect called the spittlebug (吹沫虫).

The spittlebug can jump 28 inches into the air. It is only a quarter-inch long, less than the width of a pencil. If the spittlebug were the same size as Javier, it would be able to jump 600 feet into the air. That is like a human jumping over a building 55 stories (层) high!

Though the humans lose the "jumping contest", their competitors would probably agree that Mike and Javier are still pretty excellent athletes. If only Rosie and the spittlebug could speak!

Taking online classes is becoming increasingly popular. Do students like this way of studying? Different students have different opinions about it.

Lin Tao

I love taking online classes. They give me a lot more choices and freedom. We can choose to learn whatever we want. Also, we are able to study online whenever and wherever we want, which is very convenient.

Zhang Yu

I didn’t think taking online classes was a good way to study in the beginning. The whole learning process was not as organized as it was in the classroom. I even had a hard time planning my daily activities. Then I found planning ahead and creating a study schedule were very important. So I made a plan for my everyday study, and it helped me learn better online.

Yuan Ming

Online class is helpful. We might feel more focused on learning when we are alone in

front of a computer. What’s more, taking classes online also means we can have more

time to use a computer, so we can practice our computer skills in this way.

Li Yuan

I think the idea of taking online classes is crazy. We have to spend more time on computers and the radiation(辐射)from them could do harm to the human body, especially our eyes. Also, sitting in front of a computer for a long time without exercising can be harmful to our health.
