It¡¯s a long-awaited day for China. The navy now has its first aircraft carrier(º½¿Õĸ½¢), Liaoning.
It¡¯s a unique experience to get to know the life in the carrier. The carrier is just like a small city on the sea. It has all the functions for daily life. There are 4 words to sum up its characters: big, small, much and high. The carrier Liaoning is such a huge one that the total length of the whole corridor£¨¹ýµÀ£©could reach over 20 kilometers. But the living space for the sailors£¨Ë®ÊÖ£©is quite small. That¡¯s because the carrier is designed for researching purposes, rather than comfortable living. Over 1,000 sailors, both men and women, are living onboard. They are arranged among over 3,000 tiny rooms below the deck. For visitors, it¡¯s so easy to get lost. So the first thing the new sailors have to learn is their way around. The number of female sailors is much less than that of the males, taking about 5 percent of the total. But they play a key role in carrying out some special missions.
Also, you will be surprised by the high level of education of today¡¯s sailors. The captain said that over 90 percent of the sailors are college graduates. Six hold Doctor¡¯s Degrees and 45 have a Master¡¯s. The whole team is young but vigorous. The complex work on the carrier requires high management abilities for the commanders onboard(ÔÚ´¬ÉÏ).
¡¾Ð¡Ìâ1¡¿Why do we visitors get lost easily inside the carrier?
A£®Because they don¡¯t have a map. |
B£®Because the living space is quite small. |
C£®Because there are too many corridors for rooms. |
D£®Because the corridor inside the carrier is too long. |
A£®The aircraft carrier is high since it is just like a small city. |
B£®Most of the soldiers received good education. |
C£®The expense£¨»¨·Ñ£©to run a carrier is high. |
D£®The high-level of their training. |
A£®Liaoning is our country¡¯s first aircraft carrier. |
B£®Most of the sailors on the carrier are college graduates. |
C£®There are far fewer women sailors than men sailors on the carrier. |
D£®It is comfortable for the sailors to live in the carrier. |
Lake Victoria is the largest lake in Africa. It is also the second largest lake in the world. It is an important lake because it is one of the sources(Ô´Í·) for the longest river in the world, the Nile River. Lake Victoria provides a source of water, food, and power(µçÁ¦) for several African countries. Lake Victoria is a big part of African life.
Unfortunately, Lake Victoria has a problem. It is shrinking. There are several power stations at Lake Victoria in Uganda. These are on the Nile River, and besides producing power, they keep the water of the lake at a certain level. For the past forty years, that level has been 11.9 meters. Over the last several years, the water level has dropped by about 2.5 meters. There seem to be several reasons for this drop.
One possible reason is drought(¸Éºµ). Drought has been very bad in the area since 2000. Lake Victoria gets all of its water from rain, so the drought means less water in the lake.
However, some environmentalists believe that the real problem is the power plants(¹¤³§) on Lake Victoria. Uganda depends on those power plants for most of its power, and they made the power plants larger in 2000. Many people believe the power plants have been taking too much water off Lake Victoria. As a result, they have been asked to use less water until Lake Victoria goes back to its old level.
Whether the low water level is caused by drought or power plants, the result is the same. This is already a poor area of Africa, where many people live a really hard life. People, animals and plants around Lake Victoria will suffer even more from low water levels on the lake. Many people need Lake Victoria for fishing or growing food. Fish need the water to live, and animals need it for water. Plants around the lake will die without the water, and then more animals and people will suffer. Unless the lake fills soon, many people will suffer and die.
¡¾Ð¡Ìâ1¡¿Lake Victoria is __________.

B. There has been little rain in the lake area since 2000.
C. The power plants in Uganda provide water for the lake.

B£®More sources of water must be found. |
C£®Every country should offer some money to Africa. |
D£®All the people living in the area should move to another place. |
Computers are useful machines. They can help people a lot in their daily life. For example, they can help people to save much time to do more work, and they can help people to work out many problems they can't do easily. Our country asks everyone to learn to use computers before the twenty-first century, except the old people.
Today more and more families own computers. Parents buy computers for their children. They hope computers can help them improve their studies in school. However, many of their children use computers to play games, to watch videos or to sing. The teachers and parents complain that computers can not help children to study but make them fall behind. So computers are locked in boxes by parents.
In some other countries, even some scientists also hate computers. They say computers let millions of people lose their jobs or bring them a lot of trouble. Will computers really bring trouble to people or can they bring people happiness?
It will be decided by today's students themselves!
