Many Chinese students think American students enjoy more freedom than them at school. But American
schools also have their rules. If the students break the rules, they will get punishment, too. On the first
day of a new term, 128 students of Morton High School were sent home for wearing the wrong clothes.

     A special girl named Xu Xiujuan came from Heilongjiang Province. The Zhalong Nature Reserve is in
Northeast China. It is the summer home of many red-crowned cranes. The cranes start their families there.
Xu Xiujuan's family cared for cranes in the Zhalong Nature Reserve for a long time.
     The workers tried to increase the number of red-crowned cranes because these birds are very rare. In
the reserve Xu Xiujuan helped the workers care for the cranes when had babies.
     Xu Xiujuan, a twenty-two-year-old girl, came to work in the Yancheng Reserve in Jiangsu in 1986.
She enjoyed her work very much. She loved cranes and she loved nature. When she walked in the

     On 16th September, 1987, two little cranes from the Yancheng Reserve flew into the wild and did not
come back. Xu Xiujuan was worried and went to look for them in the evening. Someone told her that a

take a short cut, but she had to cross a river. Sadly, the river was much deeper than she thought. While
crossing the river, the girl downed and never came out.
