Mr. Clarke joined the army when he was eighteen. Four years later he came back to his hometown and found work in a post office. He couldn’t find any work in the town and he had to beg(乞讨) in the street. Now his clothes are dirty and broken and sometimes he’s hungry.
One morning he was begging at the station. He saw a woman in beautiful clothes come out by the exit. He went close to her and hoped that she gave him some money. The woman had a look at him and hurried to cover her nose with her hand.
“It seems that you have come from the hell(地狱).” The woman called out.
Mr. Clarke understood she was such a woman who never helped the poor and said, “You’re right, madam. I’m really from the hell.”

We all have problems. If we can’t deal with our problems, we will become unhappy easily.
Worry about our problems can affect what we do at school. It can also influence the way we get along with our families at home. Here are some ways to deal with our problems.
l By learning to forget.
Most of us have probably been angry with our friends, parents or teachers. Perhaps they said something you didn’t like, or you felt they were about a small problem. When we are angry, we are usually the ones affected. However, this usually does not last for long. We can solve a problem by learning to forget.
l By regarding problems as challenges
Many students often complain(抱怨) about school. They might feel they have too much work to do or think the rules are too strict. We must learn how to change these “problems” into “challenges”. As young people , it is our duty to try to deal with each challenge in our education with the help of our teachers.
l By thinking of something worse
By comparing (比较)yourself to other people, you will find your problems are not so terrible. Think about Stephen Hawking, a very clever scientist. He can’t walk or even speak, but he has become very famous and successful. We are probably quite healthy and smart. Let’s not worry about problems. Let’s face the challenges instead.

Some people prefer to make friends with people who are very much like them while others prefer friends who are very different. There are advantages to both types of friendship. If a man chooses a friend similar to himself, there is no problem that they will share many common interests. They may have similar goals in life. This means that they will be able to help each other in achieving their goals. Two people who are very similar will feel comfortable with each other and may understand each other' s feelings better. Their friendship may be deeper and last longer.
There are also many advantages of making friends with someone of opposite interests and even character. In this type of friendship, the two people complement (补充) each other. If one is weak in some ways, the other is strong. While two people with similar goals may find themselves in competition, hut those who want different things can always support each other. Those who have different interests can introduce each other to new experience and so enrich (丰富) their knowledge.
A friend who is unlike me may be challenging, but a similar friend is familiar and safe.
