　　Mr. Smith was going away for a week. Before he left, he said to his son, "If anyone asks for me, you can tell him that your father is out and will be back in a week, then be sure to ask him to sit down for a cup of tea．"

　　His son did not have a good memory (记忆), so Mr. Smith wrote these words down on a piece of paper and gave it to his son.

　　His son put it into his small pocket, and took it out and read it every now and then.

　　Four days passed．No one came to see Mr. Smith. The boy thought that there was no man coming and he had no more use for that piece of paper. So he burnt it away that night.

　　On the fifth day in the afternoon, someone knocked at the door. The boy opened it. A man was standing at the door and said, "Is your father in?" The boy quickly put his hand into his pocket and looked for the piece of paper. As he could not find it, he suddenly remembered and shouted, "No more."

　　The man was greatly surprised． He asked, "No more? I met your father last week. When did it happen?"

　　"Burnt last night."
