Would you mind if someone says nothing four your help?
Think of the following things. СÌâ1:____________  She suddenly asks you to pass a bowl to her. You do so. What will your mother¡¯s response(·´Ó¦) be? Maybe she¡¯ll say nothing but just go on cooking. After a while, the dinner is ready. Your mother hands you a bowl of rice. What¡¯s your response?СÌâ2:____________
That¡¯s what I want to say. In Chinese families, we don¡¯t often say ¡°Thank you¡± to other family members for receiving help or service. СÌâ3:____________  If we say it, the other people will think we are treating(¶Ô´ý) them as strangers. СÌâ4:___________  Teachers will thank a student for answering a question; the husband will thank his wife for making a cup of coffee.
In Japan, it¡¯s a tradition to say ¡°Thank you¡±, no matter(ÎÞÂÛ) whether the person is a family member or a friend. СÌâ5:___________
Do you think it is necessary to say ¡°Thank you¡± to your family members or friends?
A. We don¡¯t say so between good friends, either.     B. Japanese people also say it a lot.
C. Your mother is busy in the kitchen.              D. But in the west, people say ¡°Thank you¡± all the time.
E. You¡¯ll probably just begin to eat.

Are you the only child in the family? If so, you are the most important in your family. Parents are the closest people to you in the world. But most middle school students have a problem. They feel they¡¯re not as close to their parents as before.
Some students complain that their parents often say a lot to them, but never listen to them. Some say their parents ask them not to play computer games when other classmates are doing that. Others say when they¡¯re making phone calls to friends, their parents like to ask if the children are speaking to a boy or a girl. These make them very unhappy. Some students even decide to leave home because they¡¯re afraid to tell their parents when they have done something wrong. Then they usually think running away is the only choice. But they don¡¯t know running away may bring them some more problems.
Problems are parts of life. Here are some suggestions for you to solve the problems.
¡¤Find a good time to talk with your parents. Don¡¯t be afraid to tell them your feelings.
¡¤Get help from others like good friends or teachers.
¡¤Keep a diary to help you understand more about yourself and your feelings.
¡¤Show your parents you¡¯re growing up. Then they¡¯ll feel you¡¯re not a small child.
If you follow the advice, you¡¯ll have a happy life and never think of running away.

A farm is always a busy place. One of the busiest things is when the farmer is getting land ready to grow plants.
If the farmer is going to grow wheat, he has to turn the ground over first. The farmer drives up and down the paddock£¨²ÝµØ£© on tractor£¨ÍÏÀ»ú£©. When the ground is ready, the farmer sows the seeds. He does this with a machine that the tractor pulls along. Now, one farm and one machine can do as much a day as twenty men used to do without a machine. After the wheat has been sown, the farmer keeps a lookout£¨ÊØÍû£© for rain. Wheat needs rain and warm sunny days to make it grow. When the wheat has grown, it turns to a lovely golden colour.
When the wheat is fully grown, you can see the seeds on the wheat plants. These have to be out off and put in bags or big trucks to be taken to a factory where they are made into flour£¨Ãæ·Û£©.
It¡¯s a very busy time on farm when the wheat is being cut. Everyone helps so that all the wheat can be taken from the paddocks before the rain comes. If heavy rain falls, the farm must wait for the ground dry out before the machine can cut the wheat. Farmers always have a lot to do through the year.

How do you feel when you have to make a speech in front of class? What about when you go to a birthday party? Do you get really shy?
Shyness means feeling nervous or frightened when you¡¯re around other people. Experts (ר¼Ò) have found that more than 80 percent of middle school students feel afraid to be the centre of attention. Some kids are born shy. Some become shy later because of their life experiences.
It¡¯s OK if it takes you a while to feel yourself again when you go to a new place or meet new people. In fact, everybody gets a little shy sometimes. It¡¯s just a case of how much.
Most people have red faces and talk in broken sentences when they get shy. But some become so shy that they won¡¯t go to a restaurant because they are too nervous to order and pay the bill (Õ˵¥). Some are afraid of meeting new people, so they seldom go outside. This kind of shyness can be bad for a person.
If shyness doesn¡¯t stop you from doing something you want to do, being shy isn¡¯t a very big problem. Some experts say shy people are quieter and cleverer because they think more and talk less. Shy people are also good at working with others because they think more for other people. Some great people in history were shy, too.
You see, being shy isn¡¯t all bad. But remember not to let good chances pass by just because of it! If you have to sing a song at a birthday party or practise your spoken English in front of others, just do it! There¡¯s nothing to be afraid of.
