Kurt and his wife stayed at home, made  sandwiches,       a table in the street and gave food to the homeless.
The Mullers soon realized that food and clothing weren’t         . “What these people also need is warmth and        ,” says Rita. Rita        there was somebody at home to answer the phone and their home was always        to anyone who couldn’t face another night on the street.

Kurt and Rita receive no payment for their hard work. “We feel like parents,” says Rita, “and parents shouldn’t      money for helping their children. That Will Teach You, Bear!

One beautiful day, Bear was out hunting. As he walked past a fallen tree, he heard a small voice shout, “Watch your feet!”
Bear looked down and saw Cricket (蟋蟀). “You almost destroyed my house,” Cricket said.
“I’ll walk wherever I want to,” Bear shouted as he showed off his size and strength.
Cricket shouted back, “But it’s my house, and I should protect it!”
This made Bear so furious that he said he would destroy the house, Cricket, and all of Cricket’s family. This made Cricket angry. “I have a friend who is only half my size, but he is strong enough to beat you in a fight.”
Bear laughed and said, “Go and get your friend, Cricket. I’ll return tomorrow, and we’ll see who can win in a fight.”
The next morning, Bear returned to Cricket’s house. “Come out, brave Cricket,” called Bear. Suddenly he felt a terrible ache on his back. He yelled, but Cricket’s friend Mosquito (蚊子) continued stinging (叮) until Bear yelled, “I give up!”
Just then Cricket appeared at the door of his house. Cricket told Bear to leave and never return. Bear quickly ran away.

Look at the cat on the left. Find anything strange?

In 1961, a man found a strange cat on his farm in Scotland. The cat’s ears were folded (折着的), bent (弯曲) forward, on its head. In fact, this was a new kind of cat. People named it the “Scottish Fold”.
The Scottish Fold has a round head and big eyes. Its neck and legs are short. They make it look very lovely. Interestingly, all the Scottish Folds are born with straight and unfolded ears. And when they are growing up day by day, some cats’ ears will begin to fold. So, the Scottish Fold comes in two types: folded ears and straight ears.
There is a nickname for the Scottish Fold. It is the “Messenger of Peace”. Why? Because the Folds are sweet and friendly animals. They can get along well with other cats. And unlike some other cats, they can even get along well with dogs! In many different places, for example, at a noisy house or in a cat show, you can see them playing with other animals happily.
Well, when you come to a new school, do you think it’s difficult to feel comfortable in the new place? Perhaps you can learn from the Scottish Fold, which is always sweet and friendly to others.

Years ago, I lived in a building in a large city. The next building only was a few feet away from mine. They was a woman lived there, and I had never met her, yet I could see she sat by her window each afternoon, drinking or reading.
After a few months, I began to notice that her window was dirty. Everything was unclear through the dirty window. I would say to myself. “I wonder why that woman doesn’t clean her window. It really looks terrible.”
One sunny morning I decided to clean my house, including washing the window.
Late in the afternoon when I finished the cleaning, I sat down by the window with a cup of coffee for a rest. What a surprise! Across the way, the woman sitting by her window was clearly visible (看见). Her window was clean!
It dawned on me. I had been criticizing (批评) her dirty window, but all the time I was watching hers through my own dirty window.
That was quite an important lesson for me. How often had I looked at others through the dirty window of my heart?
