China has built more than 90,000 bridges and broken many world records since 2013. And it is now running ahead of the US, Europe and Japan in the construction(建筑) of long bridges.

China has taken 8 seats of the world's top 10 highest bridges. Beipanjiang Bridge was completed in 2016. It holds the record for the highest bridge in the world. This bridge crosses a canyon between Yunnan and Guizhou provinces. How high is it? It sits over 565 metres above the river which is as high as a 200-floor building!

As for the longest cross-sea bridge, China has kept breaking this world record, too. The country now has 6 of the world’s longest cross-sea bridges. Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is the world’s longest cross-sea bridge. It takes eight years(from 2009 to 2017) to complete this bridge. The 55-kilometre-long bridge aims to connect the three major cities on China’s Pearl River Delta, into a one-hour-drive economy circle.

China also surprises the world with amazing bridge design. Have you heard about Zhangjiajie Glass Footbridge? It is built over a 300-metre-deep canyon in the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park in Hunan Province. The bridge has been open to the public since September 2016. This amazing bridge is now the highest glass-bottomed bridge in the world, which gives tourists an excited feeling of walking in the air.

Sanxiaokou Xinhua Bookstore, the world’s first sharing bookstore, opened on July 16 in Hefei, Anhui province, according to China News. It sells books as normal bookstores. But at the same time, it allows readers to take books home for free to read after paying a 99 yuan deposit(押金). They can borrow two books in 10 days by scanning a QR code(扫描二维码) on the book.

The bookstore is quite popular among the cily’s readers. By Aug 26, more than 100,000 books had been borrowed. The number of visitors to the bookstores has also grown by 50 percent. The bookstore is going to open nine more stores in other places of the city.

But some people question that these sharing bookstores are just like a library.

“Although the two both rent books, sharing bookstores have more kinds of books," Xu Xinwei, the store’s deputy manager(副店长),told China News. “We also renew(更新) our book selection more often than libraries.”
