Mama,

I wonder if you will ever really understand me. I ________your anger at my grades today, but Mama, I try, I really do. I think there must be something wrong with me. However much I try, I ________manage to get it right. I want to make you happy, Mama. I want you to be as________of me as John’s mom is when he tops in the class, or Sherry’s ma is when she wins the first prize in singing. I wish I were the kind of son you could be proud of. But sadly I am not.

But, Mama, when you say I will never be a “good” person, I don’t know what you ________. Is it only good ________that make a person good or bad? Miss White says that I have beauty of ________, but I wonder why you never notice it. I wonder how many times you noticed me helping an old neighbor cross the street, or slipping my week’s pocket money to the old beggar down the street. I thought I was doing ________to be proud of, but when I came running home to tell you about it, you just curtly nodded your head and told me to go to do my homework. I guess what I did wasn’t something very great.

Mama, I love you and wish you could be proud of me. Proud of what I am. Proud of the little things I achieve. I have no one other than you, and I want to make you happy. But I guess I am not________ enough for that. Watering grandpa’s garden every week and buying groceries for grandma isn’t as ________as doing math. But, Mama, I wish you could understand, they’re so old and frail, I couldn’t resist offering to help them a bit.

I just wish you would understand me and be proud of me when you noticed me ________my seat in the train to an elderly lady.

Your sad son

It’s often said that you can’t “ teach an old dog new skills”, but these three New Zealand dogs have changed the saying by learning a skill------driving a car.

To get their training started. 10-month-old Porter, 18-month-old Monty and one-year-old Cinny were chosen from seven dogs. And they were sent to Animal Q, a talent center that specialized ( 专攻 ) in teaching animals skills for movies and TV shows.

The three dogs were taught by the trainer Marke Vette. The two-month driving classes began with teaching the dogs some basic driving skills like turning the steering wheels ( 方向盘) . After that the dogs practiced everything they had learned. Finally, it was time for the big test------driving a real car.

As we know, human cars aren’t built for four-legged animals. The car that people drove had to be improved so that the dogs could easily reach the steering wheels with their paws( 爪子 ). A stick attached( 固定 ) to the accelerator(油门)and brake ( 刹车 ) helped start and stop the car. All the three dogs passed the test without human help. Monty was the best of the three.

It’s hoped that these pioneers will land their names in the Cuinness World Records as the world’s “First Driving Dogs”.
