There was a man who had four sons. He wanted his sons to learn not to judge things too quickly. So he sent them to go and look at a pear tree far away in turns.

The first son went in the winter, the second in the spring, the third in summer, and the youngest son in the fall. _________they had all gone and come back, he called them together to describe what they had seen. The first son said that the tree was ugly.第二个儿子说没有——它被绿叶覆盖并充满了希望。The third son disagreed, he said there were many flowers that smelled so sweet and looked so beautiful, it was the most wonderful thing he had ever seen. The last son disagreed with all of them, he said there was lots of fruit on the tree, full of life and harvest.

The man then explained to his sons that they were all right, but they had each seen only one season in the tree’s life. He told them, “You cannot judge a tree, or a person by only one season and its true nature--the pleasure, joy, and love that come from that life can only be measured (测量) at the end, when all the seasons are up.”

If you give up when it’s winter, you will miss the promise of your spring, the beauty of your summer, the harvest of your fall. Don’t let the pain of one season kill the joy of all the rest.

A private middle school in Britain has stopped morning lessons and moved lessons to start at 1:30 p.m. every day. Its teachers believed their students would study better after a good rest.

Instead of rising early for a 9 a.m. start, students at Hampton Court House in Surrey, can enjoy a lie in and work from 1.30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Head teacher Guy Holloway said the move was from the study by neuroscientists (神经系统科学家).

According to the study, teenagers usually go to bed late and struggle to get up early. So, many teenagers do not get enough sleep during the weekdays and this can, and often does, have a great influence on teenagers’ mental and physical health (身心健康).

The new move began from September last year and the students think it’s quite good. The students have become more efficient and less stressed (压力). They can learn better. They can also avoid rush-hour traffic. This school has the latest start time in the U.K. and is the only one to begin lessons in the afternoon.

The 10th grade student Gabriel Purcell-Davis is one of the first groups of students to start class at the later time. The 15-year-old boy likes the idea. He said, “Finally, I can wake up in my bed, not in my maths lesson.”
