Last month my family traveled to San Francisco, we stopped for lunch. As we walked towards the ______ of the restaurant, a man with dirty hair, jumped up from a chair outside the restaurant and opened the door for ______. He greeted us in a friendly way.

Once inside, my daughters said softly, "Mom, he smells." We watched other customers come to the ______ but many ignored* him. Seeing this rudeness truly made me ______. I decided to set a good example to my ______. When our meal arrived, I realized I had left some medicine in the car. With the windiest trip ahead, the kids needed them, ______ I excused myself from the meal and went to get them.

Just then, the "doorman" was opening the door for a couple. They ______ past him without even acknowledging* his presence. Letting them in first, I said a ______ "thank you" to him as I went out.

When I returned, we talked a bit. He said he was not allowed inside unless* he ______ food. I went back and told my family his ______. Then I asked our waitress to add one soup and sandwich. The kids looked puzzled as we had already eaten, but when I said the order was for the "doorman", they ______.

When it was time to continue our trip, I found the "doorman" enjoying his ______. Upon seeing me, he stood up and thanked me heartily. He then ______ his hand for a handshake and I accepted. I ______ noticed the tears* in his eyes - tears of gratitude. What happened next drew great surprise: I gave the "doorman" a ______. He pulled away, with tears rolling down his face.

Back in car, I fell into deep thought. While we can't choose many things in life, we can choose when to show gratitude. I said thanks to a man who had simply held open a door for me, and also said thanks for that chance to teach my children by example.

The villages of Momai and Bugolyak are next to each other and hidden in the remote (偏远的) high mountains of Tajikistan. Life in the village has been peaceful. There are about 40 families in Momai and 18 in Bugolyak. The villagers live on crops and farm animals. Their connection to the outside world is a hilly road. The villages have no electricity. The villagers use oil for lighting.

It seems that many years ago the power company considered building a power line to the village. However, it was put off or maybe given up because of the high construction(建设) cost and low return for the investment(投资).

Thankfully, Asian Development Bank decided to carry out solar power system projects in Tajikistan at that time. At first, the progress was rather slow. It took them two years to complete studies. The real project started in Jan. 2016 and was finally completed in late 2017. The poor road conditions in the village also made it difficult to bring materials.

The villagers are very happy about the solar power systems. They can watch television at their homes for the first time. Children can now see the outside world without going out. Batteries provide power during the night or when it is raining. In addition, a solar power system has been set up in the school and it can send water to homes.

Mr. Karimov, a volunteer, taught villagers how to keep solar power systems and use electricity safely. Bring life to national treasures by singing

At the beginning of 2018, a TV programme(节目) called National Treasure introducing valuable cultural relies(文物)of our country went popular. People learned stories and had more interest in the treasure. Now, we have a new way to know more about the ancient(古代的) paintings in the Palace Museum through music.

Tencent QQ music and the Palace Museum together held a songwriting competition, Ancient Painting Can Sing(古画会唱歌).

The competition was open to songwriters between 17 to 35, and the songs must be based(根据) on ten ancient paintings at the Palace Museum. The winners could sing their works with pop singers at a concert(音乐会) held at the Palace Museum in October.

Yi Yangqianxi, a member of the famous group TFBoys sang the theme(主题) song, Magnificent Landscape in Painting(《丹青千里》) , for the competition. The idea of the song came from the famous painting A Panorama of Rivers and Mountains(《千里江山图》). It was shown in the TV programme and now it’s in the Palace Museum.

The writer, Fang Wenshan wrote the lyrics(歌词) of the song. He is famous for using cultural images in the lyrics. And the music is a modern style, including traditional Chinese musical instruments(乐器), such as guzheng and pipa.

The music video of the song came out online on July 25, 2018, which is also the beginning of the competition ,
