“Better Days", a movie about two teens who are constantly bullied(被欺凌), has brought new attention to school bullying.

A bully means to give you a hard time for no reason at all. A bully calls your names, takes your things and makes you feel afraid over and over again for a long time.

Surveys show that one-fourth of the US middle school students have experienced bullying.

Bullying can make you feel terrible. Maybe you are scared to go to school, or can’t eat or sleep. What can you do? First of all, remember to be proud of who you are. Don’t take the bully’s mean words to your heart. Also, keep in mind that it’s not your fault, it’s the bully who has the problem. If you can, ignore the bully, hopefully he or she get bored and stop. If these things don’t work, tell your favorite teacher and your parents about the bullying.

And, of course, never be a bully. If you don’t like someone, be nice anyway, and the world will be a much happier place.

Computers can help us in many ways, but they cannot think or do things on their own. Humans have to feed them with information and tell them what to do. They cannot come up with any new information, but they can save much time and work. For example, all the information and the office files (文件) can be stored in a computer’s “memory”.

The first computers were huge and expensive. They filled up almost the whole floor of large offices. Later, scientists found ways to produce cheaper and smaller computers. They invented chips (芯片) which made it possible to store more information in less space.

Today, computers are not only cheaper, but also more compact. They can just be placed on top of an ordinary writing table. They can even be carried from place to place easily. Computers are not only used in offices by companies, but are used at home by families who can afford them.

Robots are only moving parts controlled by computers. A robot can do the same work as a person for 24 hours without complaining or getting tired.

In Japan and some places in America, robots are used in factories to assemble (装配) cars. As computers become more and more common in businesses and factories, people fear that one day computers and computer-controlled robots will put human workers out of work.

When I was about twelve years old, a girl in my class liked to point out my disadvantages.

My disadvantages: I was very thin; I wasn't good at math; I talked too much; I was too proud and so on. At last. I became very angry. I ran to my father with tears in my eyes.

He listened to me quietly, and asked. "Are those things true or not? Jane. didn't you ever think about what you're really like?" Then he added, "Well, you have that girl's opinions. Make a list of everything she said and mark(做标记)the true points."

I did as he told me. To my great surprise, I found out that about half the things were true. Some of them I couldn't change, like being very thin, but many I could—and suddenly I wanted to change. For the first time I got a clear picture of myself.

I brought the list back to Daddy, and he said, "Now you know better about yourself. But you have to learn to listen, not just close your ears angrily and feel hurt. When something said about you is true, you'll find it will be of great help to you. Don't shut your ears. Listen to the truth and do what you know is the right thing to do."

Daddy's advice has returned to me at many important moments. In my life. I've never had a better piece of advice.
