Christian Bucks may be young, but he sure knows how to be a good friend. When the York, Pennsylvania, second-grader noticed that some of his schoolmates didn’t have anyone to play with during the break time, he came up with a way to help them. He suggested having something called a “buddy bench” put in on his school’s playground.

A buddy bench is a special bench where students can sit if they are feeling bored or lonely. It’s usually brightly colored with “BUDDY BENCH” in big letters. Other students can then go to the bench and ask them if they would like to play or talk.
“We show we care about others when we ask others to play,” Christian told reporters.
Christian first learned about buddy benches when his family was considering moving to Germany. He saw a buddy bench in a handbook for a German school and thought it would be a great way to fight loneliness on the playground at his own school, Roundtown Elementary School.
Christian told Roundtown’s headteacher, Matthew Miller, about his idea at the end of last school year. Miller immediately decided to get a buddy bench. He had Christian pick out its style and bright colors.
“I was the first person who got to sit on the bench when it arrived at Roundtown,” says Christian. He hopes the bench will help “grow our dream circle of friends”.

Luckily,it began to stop after about ten minutes.“Okay,Mum,” I said loudly into the phone,“I’ll see you later Bye!” I put the phone down.picked up my shopping bag and walked out of the phone box “I’m sorry I took so long,”I said to the man.
“Oh, I don’t want to use the phone,”he replied.smiling.“I’ve just come to repair it. It’s out of order.you see.” I felt myself go bright red in the face and I hurried away with my head down, feeling a complete fool. That was certainly one of the most embarrassing moments of my life!

I have always wanted to share this story because it is one of the things that I will remember for my whole life. And I’m sure the other person feels the same.
We had a new teacher in my middle school World History class. She was very nice and excited to see us. She told a story about her       fighting in a war and brought a picture of him. After about fifteen       of her talking, the class started talking softly to each other     they were getting bored. Looking     , she asked “So, you guys don’t really want to hear any more?” No one dared to say “no” to her loud     one kid. He said, “No, not really!”       a disrespectful(无礼的) way. Some kids were a little       and thought that it was rather rude.
I felt really bad for this teacher. No one should be    in such a disrespectful manner. Therefore, near the end of the class I went up and said       to her for the guy’s rude behavior. I told her I had been listening, and even though I may not really like      , I was grateful to her for sharing her story. I asked her       about her father and asked to see the picture of him. We had a very nice, sincere conversation about her father.
The teacher was touched. She thanked me for coming up and actually treating her with the respect(尊敬) that she deserved. I felt at full peace with       knowing that I did the right thing and I was super happy that I made her day. Even though I didn’t really care for history, I       listened, and I hope that others in different situations will do the same. Listening means a lot to the people sharing; it really      . If I had just left the class without saying a word, I would have felt very       and would have a constant reminder, probably to this day, that justice(公义) was not served and I had left a person in their time of need.

During my second year of nursing school, our teacher gave us a quiz (小测验). I was a hard-working student and I did well      all the subjects. I finished the questions successfully until I read the     one, “What is the first name of the     who cleans the school?”
I saw the cleaning woman every day. She is short and about 60 years old. She has dark hair. But      would I know her name? I have      talked with her before. In fact, I’ve never even thought about      to her! I stared at (盯着) my paper and started to feel rather guilty (惭愧的). Finally, I handed in my paper     writing the answer to the last question.
Before the class ended, one student      the teacher if the last question would count (计入) into our grade. “In your life,” the teacher said, “you will     many people. All are      . They deserve (值得) your attention (注意) and care, even if all you do is just      and saying hello.”
I’ll never      that lesson. Everyone deserves our attention and we    try to get to know all the people who work and live around us. That was the most important   of my life. Later that day, I    that the cleaning woman’s name was Dorothy.
