“What can we do?”cried Barbara.

“Is that the only 6 ?”asked Donald.
“Yes. I only hope we'll be 7 ,” called Tom. “Come on ! ”
He ran across the bridge, and began to climb down the other bank 8 the railway track (轨). The others followed him. They all ran along the side of the track as quickly as they could.
At last they saw the signal house. The signalman was looking out and saw them running 9 the house. He waved and shouted to them,“Get 10 the track at once! There's a train just coming. ”
But they ran on, shouting,“The line's blocked! The line's blocked!”
“You are only just in time,”cried the signalman when he heard their story. He ran back into the signal house and pulled the levers (杆).
A moment or two later the express(快车)came along the line. When the driver saw that the signals were against him, he put on all his brakes to stop the train.
