A man drove all night and felt very tired, so he stopped in a quiet place to get some sleep in his car. When he started to sleep, he heard a knock on the car window. He looked up and there was a jogger(慢跑锻炼者) standing there. He rolled down(摇下) the window and the jogger asked, “Excuse me. Do you know what time it is?”
“It is 7:15.” he answered.
The jogger thanked him and ran on down the road. A few minutes later, just as the man started to sleep again, there came another knock on the car window. It was another jogger. He rolled down his window again and this jogger also asked for the time.
“It is 7: 23.” he said.
The jogger thanked him and kept running. The man looked around and found there were lots of morning joggers. “If they keep coming here to ask me the same question, I am never going to get any sleep,” he thought. So he put up a sign on his car window. The sign read, “I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS.”

There are four basic periods for human beings to pass through when entering and living in another country. This long process helps you deal with culture shock(文化冲击).
Culture shock begins with the "honeymoon period?”. This is the time when you first arrive in a place where everything about the new culture is strange and exciting. You see new things, hear new sounds and language, eat new kinds of food. This period can last for quite a long time because you feel very happy.
Unluckily, the second period can be more difficult. After you have got used to your new life, you can become very uncomfortable and begin to miss your motherland, your family, your friends, your pets and so on. All the small problems in life seem to be much bigger and more worrying when you face them in a foreign country. This period can be very difficult and lead to moving backwards quickly.
The third period is called the “adjustment (调整)period”. You begin to realize that things are not so bad in the new country. Your sense of humor usually becomes stronger and you realize you are becoming stronger by learning to take care of yourself in the new place. Things are still difficult, but you are now a survivor.
The fourth period can be called "at ease at last". Now you feel quite comfortable in the new place. You can deal with most problems that you have. You may still have problems, but you know you are strong enough to deal with them. At this time, you may feel a little uncomfortable if you go back to your motherland.
