Spring Festival has just passed. were you excited about getting lucky money and watching the Spring Festival Gala (春节联欢晚会) on TV? Spring Festival is a happy time. But do you know how we celebrate it?

Whether Chinese or American, everyone enjoys a good holiday. In China, Spring Festival is the most joyous time of year, while many Americans look forward to celebrating the Christmas holiday.

I love a good party so much that I have experienced both Spring Festival and Christmas. I have found they have many differences, as well as a few things in common. Both holidays involve lots of family and great food. When I was in China, I made fresh dumplings during the Spring Festival and waited for my red bags. Unfortunately, my family was back in America so I never got any. Christmas is a lot of fun. In the afternoon, families get together and have a huge meal and talk about all of the gifts they got that day. Usually they eat ham or turkey on Christmas day. On Christmas, many Americans leave gifts under the Christmas tree. Little kids wake up early and open presents.

One of the major differences between the holidays is that Spring Festival also starts the Chinese New Year. So there are many fireworks and parties. When I was in Beijing, I couldn't sleep because there were so many booms (回响) from fireworks. In America, we celebrate the New Year on January 1st and so we save all of our excitement for that day. Another difference is that Christmas is a religious (宗教的) holiday. It celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ.
