Early in spring, the Lord and some of his family went to London. Ginger and I and some other horses stayed at home. The Earl's daughter, Lady Anne, loved riding horses with her brother and cousins. 1.. I was her horse, and she named me "Black Auster". I enjoyed these rides with Lady Anne in the clear cold air.

One of them ran across the road and up against Lizzie's back legs. Suddenly Lizzie gave a big kick, and galloped off down the road. Lady Anne nearly fell off but she soon recovered. I neighed loudly for help.
