【题目】

On June 26, 2000, two scientists, called Francis Collins and Craig Venter, told the world that they could now read the whole "map" of the human body: DNA. DNA is something that everybody has, and it tells the body what to do. DNA is the reason that we look like our mother and father, because we get some of their DNA to make our own.

People have been trying to understand the human body for a long time. In 1860, Gregor Mendel discovered a special reason why we look the same as other people in our family. It is because of small things named "genes" in our body. In 1953, James Watson and Francis Crick made another discovery and found out that those small parts are real messages written in the DNA with a special language.

In 1961, Marshall Nirenberg and Johann Matthaei found a message in DNA showing how DNA tells the cell(细胞)to build its parts. Scientists have now found all the words in the DNA map, but we still do not understand what they all do. By understanding what just one "word" means, we can help save more people from several illnesses.

Most people hope that this will help make better medicine and help sick people. Other people worry that when people begin to know more words and find out lots of other information, we might use it in a wrong way, just to make people more attractive, or stop sick people from getting jobs. Man would have to meet a lot of trouble if DNA technology(技术)wasn't limited(限制)in use.

【1】When did we first know why we look like other people in our family?

A. In 2000. B. In 1953. C. In 1961. D. In 1860.

A. The "map" of DNA.

B. A new illness.

C. A message of DNA.

D. The language of DNA.

【3】What can we do if we understand some "words" of the language inside the body?

A. Make people get new jobs.

B. Make medicine for illnesses.

C. Make maps of human.

D. Make people less attractive.

【4】What do people think about this work?

A. It can cause good or bad results.

B. It can cause only good results.

C. It can cause good results but won't work.

D. It can cause only bad results.

【题目】 Blame(责备) is one of the biggest problems that we meet in everyday life. 【1】 And when that doesn't happen, we blame other people, places or events that we think are the causes of our unhappiness.

Everything we feel comes from within us. 【2

If we create unhappiness for ourselves, the world will show us that unhappiness, but if we create joy, peace, and love for ourselves, this is what we will get back.

Can blame solve any problems? 3 When people did something hat makes us angry, afraid or hurt, we are doing nothing more than showing them the anger we feel inside.

We have choices about things that make us unhappy. We sometimes prefer to take the easier choices, the ones that keep us in our comfort zone(地带). 4 Sometimes we just have to go beyond our comfort zone, which may mean facing something we don't like. Perhaps we feel like a victim(受害) and don't stand up for ourselves or speak up when we feel that people don't respect us. Maybe we are afraid of a situation, so we run away from it, instead of facing it with inner strength.

Whatever the problem is, we have a choice every day to face it with blame, fear, anger, guilt(内疚), or with love, kindness, peace. 5 Don't blame. Enjoy your day.

【题目】Cats’ sense of smell is very important to their health. Many cat owners have seen a cat smell the food and refuses it. Careful sniffing( 嗅) tells the cat if something is safe to eat.

Cats have a pair of vomeronasal organs(犁鼻器) on the roof of the mouth. When the cat wants to sniff she will breathe the air in through her mouth. At this moment she will often squint(斜视) her eyes and maybe even flatten(使…平坦) her ears. This makes her look like she is making faces. The vomeronasal organs will then analyze(分析)the smell---almost as if the cat is tasting the smell.

When you come home from outside the house your cat can smell what you had for lunch and for a mid-afternoon snack. Cats have scent glands(臭腺) on each side of the forehead on the chin the lips and next to the tail. When your cat rubs up against your hand your leg the sofa and your bed she is leaving her scent in those things.
