TV report says China will make a strict law to ban(禁止) smoking in public places or offices.
A survey shows the rate of exposure (暴露) to second-hand smoke jumped from 53 per cent in 2002 to about 73 per cent in 2013 in China. The survey covers more than thirteen thousand people over the age of 15. Nearly 770 million non-smokers suffer from second-hand smoking, the survey says.
According to the survey, smoking in government buildings ranks (排名) second in the type of buildings that have public smoking. Restaurants are in the first place.
The statistics (统计) from the World Health Organization show second-hand smoking kills six hundred thousand people around the world. The number in China is about one hundred thousand. If no improvement is made, the deaths due to second-hand smoking in China will grow to 2 million by 2030 and it will keep increasing to 3 million in 2050.
"There is no safe level of exposure to second-hand smoking. If non-smoking areas are not completely separated (隔离) from the smoking ones, the harm to our health will be the same," said ZhiXiuyi, a professor at the Capital Medicine University.
55 per cent of leaders of organizations and more than 40 per cent of medical health personnel (人员) are smokers. The rate(比例) is only a little lower than the rate of machine operators and farmers.
