How to protect children from unsafe material online has long been discussed in the USA. For some parents, the Internet seems like a jungle, filled with danger for their children. But jungles contain (包括) wonders as well as dangers.
Most kids have started to use search engines. Many of them are great at finding lots of interesting websites, and they can also locate places where you might not want your kids to go. There are search engines designed just for kids. A certain software contains only sites that have been selected as safe. The most popular way to limit access would be to use what is known as a ‘content screener (过滤器)’. But this can’t be wholly reliable (可靠的), and the best thing parents can do is to talk to their kids and let them know what is OK or not OK to see or do on the Internet. Each year, many Chinese people go abroad because of all kinds of reasons. They are becoming younger and younger year by year. Even some Chinese parents send their children to foreign countries when they are only in a middle school. They think their children can get a wider view, less academic(学业) competition or family honor. But life can be hard for young people there. At first, they have to face the culture differences and language problems. However, these are not always the most difficult things to overcome(克服). To most children, controlling(管理) themselves well is a big challenge when studying alone in a strange country.

If you want to become a fluent English speaker you should take some advice: There are four skills in learning English. They are listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The most important thing you must remember is that if you want to improve your speaking and writing skills you should first master (精通 ) the skills of reading and listening.
Read as much as you can. But your reading must be active. It means that you must think  about the meaning of the sentence, the meaning of the unfamiliar words, etc. There is no need for you to pay much attention to grammars or try to understand all the unfamiliar words you come across, but the fact that you see them for the first time and recognize them whenever you see them, for example, in other passages or books, is enough. It would be better to prepare yourself a notebook so you can write down the important words or sentences in it.
As for listening, there are two choices: besides reading, you can listen every day for about 30 minutes. You can only pay attention to your reading and become skillful at your reading, then you can catch up on your listening. Since you have lots of inputs (输入 ) in your Mind, you can easily guess what the speaker is going to say. This never means that you should not practise listening.
For listening you can listen to cartoons or some movies that are specially made for children. Their languages are easy. Or if you are good at listening you can listen to VOA or BBC programs every day. Again the thing to remember is being active in listening and preferably(更适合) taking some notes.
If you follow these pieces of advice, your speaking and writing will improve automatically (自动地 ), and you can be sure that with a little effort they will become perfect.

Robot Green was 31years old when he went to college. That was his first time he came into the classroom. Eleven years later he received a doctor’s degree in physics. Robert Green was a good example in studies for all people. His life was a moving story.
From a young age, Robert Green lived a simple and poor life with his grandfather in the mountains of Boston. His grandfather taught him to read. Later he taught himself to read Maths books and Physics books. From time to time, he bought old books with his saved money and read them all. At that time few people in Robert’s neighbourhood knew about his love of reading and learning. But one person, Jane Keller did know him. She worked in a library. Robert used to go there and he read everything in it. She suggested books for him to read.
A year later, he entered Bethel College. He was interested in everything that he had never seen before. He got an A in every subject. To his teachers’ surprise, he finished college in three years. His teachers encouraged him greatly and he went on his education at Stanford University.

The holiday is coming to us. Finally, after months of study, you have some time to yourself. So, why not read a book? Well, some people will say, “Why do you like reading books? We have Internet. It offers a lot of more colorful fun. Books are history!” But I am sure you can learn a lot from books than Internet.
One clear reason is that a well-chosen book can give you a lot of wonderful  words, as long as you have a good dictionary, of course. Believe me; it’s far easier to get new words from a book or an article than it is from the TV or the Internet.
But another more important point is that books give you something that the Internet cannot. The general webpage (网页) is picture-heavy and the text is as easy to read as possible. While “easy” may attract (吸引) you, unluckily it’s not helpful for any long-term development of reading skills and the general language level. Because of that, reading on the Internet can’t take the place of reading books.
But perhaps the best reason is that just choosing what you read and doing it independently means that it’s something you do by and for yourself. You can choose what you want to read. It’s hard work, but you’ll find that what once seemed like a duty is now a pleasure.
小题1:Does the writer advise people to read books in their holidays?
小题2:What can people get from a well-chosen book?
小题3:What’s the general webpage like?
小题4:How many reasons for reading a book does the writer mention in the passage?
小题5:What does the writer want to tell us in the passage?
