Yours

Dear Nancy,

Thanks for your letter. I’m glad to hear that you are going to travel to Wenzhou. Now I’d like to tell you something about Wenzhou.

Wenzhou is in eastern China, and it is a beautiful city where the people are really friendly. There are many famous sights here, such as Yandang Mountains and Nanji Island. You could take a bus, train or plane here. It’s not very cold in winter and not very hot in summer, but I think it’s best to visit here in spring and autumn, because you can only pack light clothes. It’s near the ocean, so you can enjoy the delicious seafood. Also, I’d like to be your tour guide.

I hope you’ll have a good time in Wenzhou!

Three men traveling on a train began a conversition about the world's greatest wonders.

“ In my opinion,” the first man said, “ the Egyptian pyramids are the world’s greatest wonder. Although they were built thousands of years ago, they are still standing. And remember: the people who built them had only simple tools. They didn’t have the kind of machinery that builders and engineers have today.

“ I agree that the Egyptian pyramids are wonderful,” the second man said, “ But I don’t think they’re the greatest wonder. I believe computers are more wonderful than the pyramids. The Invention Blog: A Place for People to Share Opinions

Today’s question is:

What do you think is the most useful invention of all time?

Posted by Cindy Wu on Saturday, April 13

There are many ---the train , the car, the airplane are useful machines, but these are not my choices. For an everyday, useful invention, I vote for the air conditioner. I live in Taibei, and during the summer the temperature can be 35degrees Celsius(摄氏度)or more. It’s so hot! I’m not joking when I say that, without an air conditioner, people here cannot work or study. A lot of people might also get sick without cool air.

The most useful invention of all time is surely the Internet. We can now reach people and do business faster. I own a clothing store in Mexico City, and there is a lot of competition(竞争). I also have a website. Now, people from all over the world can buy my clothing using my website. I can keep in touch with friends and family in Mexico and around the world using e-mail. It’s faster than usual mail, and it’s cheaper than using the phone.

Jorge, I also think that the Internet is useful. But, in my opinion, there is an ‘invention’ that is even more important, and that’s electricity. Of course, this isn’t a man-made invention, .But without electricity, many of the world’s most important invention would not work.
