There was a boy who was sent by his parents to a boarding school(寄宿学校). Before he was sent away, the boy was the     41     student in his class. He was at the top in every exam.
But the boy changed after     42    home and studying in the boarding school. His grades started to     43   . He hated being in a group. He was lonely all the time. And there were especially dark times when he felt like committing suicide(自杀). All of this was because he felt no one loved him.
His parents started to     44     the boy. But they even did not know what was wrong with him. So his father decided to go to the school and talk with him.
They sat by the lake near the school. The father started asking him some casual questions about his lessons, teachers and     45   . After some time his father said, "Do you know, son, why I'm here today?"
"To     46    my grades," the boy replied back.
"No, no," his father said. "I'm here to tell you that you're the most     47    person for me. I want to see you      48  . I don't care about grades. I care about you. I care about your happiness. You're my life."
These words caused the boy's eyes to be filled with tears. He hugged(拥抱) his father. They didn't say     49    to each other for a long time.
Now the boy had everything he wanted. He knew there was someone on the earth who cared for him deeply. And today this young man is in university at the top of his class and no one has ever seen him     50   .

According to a new survey, student safety has become a big problem. Nearly 50% of students say they are worried about robbery(抢劫) on the way to and from school. Now in many big cities in China, some schools have taught an unusual lesson: self-protection(自我保护). Students like this lesson because there are no exams or boring classes. And they can learn how to save lives and know how to stop danger before it really happens.
Chen Haoyu, a teacher at Beijing No.25 Middle School and a self-protection expert(专家), gives young students advice on how to deal with danger.
If you are robbed
Keep calm. If you can not cry for help or run away, give the robber your money. Try to
remember what the robber looks like and tell the police later.
If you are in a traffic accident
If a car hurts you, you should remember the car number; if it is a bicycle, try to call your
parents before you let the rider go. This is because you don’t know how badly you are hurt.
If it is raining hard and there is lightning(闪电)
Don’t stay in high places and keep away from trees.
When there is a fire
Get away as fast as you can. Put wet things on your body and try to find an exit (出口).
Do not take the lift!
If someone is drowning (溺水)
If you can’t swim, don’t get into the water. Cry out for help. Remember that danger is never as far away as you think. Take care of yourself at all times!

American people like to say “Thank you” when others help them or say something kind to them. People of many countries do so, too. It is a very good habit(习惯).
You should say “Thank you” when someone passes you the salt on the table, when someone walking ahead of you keeps the door open for you, when someone says you have done your work well, or you have bought a nice thing, or your city is very beautiful. “Think you” is used not only between friends, but also between parents and children, brothers and sisters.
“Excuse me” is another short sentence they use. When you hear someone say so behind you, you know that somebody wants to walk past you without touching you. It’s not polite to break others when they are talking. If you want to speak to one of them, say “Excuse me” first, and then begin talking.
