In Australia, primary school students have much free time. Every day, they begin their lessons at about 9: 00 in the morning and finish them at3: 00 in the afternoon。 And Australian pupils have less homework than Chinese students. Usually they only get their homework on a piece of paper from the teacher once a week.

Having finished their homework at home, some children watch TV, some play games and some children practice playing some instruments(乐器) for a while. But they don' t need to practice for a long time. What's more, some children go to ride a bike in the street near the house after their homework. If they have other hobbies, they may spend some time on them. Sometimes children help set the table or do other housework; sometimes they just feed and play with their pets, For example, they talk to the pet dog or the pet cat, And some children take their pet birds out of the cage and play with them. If an Australian child loves reading. he can spend some time reading what he likes.

When weekends come, what do Australian children do? They are not busy doing their homework. What they do is helping clean the house, renting(租) a video to watch, or going out for a picnic with their friends or families.

Australian children usually have four holidays each year. The first one, also the longest one is the summer vacation, which lasts about 6 weeks from December to January. They have the second holiday from April to May for about two weeks. Australian winter vacation lasts from late June to early July for about two weeks. A thirsty crow(乌鸦) comes across(偶然遇到) a bottle of water, but the water level is out of its reach. The bird then drops some stones into it and gets the water.

“It's just a story, ” you may think. But new research has found that crows' brains may sometimes be better than those of 6?year?old children.

In a recent experiment, American scientist Corina Logan and her team caught six crows to test them. The crows and children had to choose between two sets of tubes(试管). They had to drop stones in and get water.

With the red set, when they dropped a stone into a wide tube, the water level raised in a connected narrow tube. The blue set of tubes, however, had no connection between them.

Children aged 7 to 10 were able to learn the rule. Children aged 4 to 6, however, failed. Five of the six crows failed the test. But Kitty, a 6?month?old crow, passed it. She put most of the stones into the red tubes.

A little stream(小溪) ran down from a high mountain through many villages and forests. Then it reached a desert, “I went through so many difficulties. At this time, a deep voice said, “If a breeze(微风) can cross the desert, so can a river.” It was the voice of the desert. But the little stream answered, “That's because a breeze can fly, but I can't.”

“That's because you can't give up what you are. Let yourself evaporate(蒸发) into the breeze, and it can take you across,” said the desert.

“Give up what I am now? No! No!” The little stream could not accept this idea.

“The breeze can carry the vapor(蒸气) across the desert and let it leave as rain. The rain will form a river again,” said the desert.“And whether you're a river or vapor, your nature(本性) never changes.”
