Sandy is a busy teenager. She never has enough time for all she wants to do. Like many other Amiercan teenagers, she spends hours on the telephone talking to her friends. She goes out on dates, on weekends, and she babysits for other families' children. And, of course, during the school year she has lots of homework to do. During the football season, Sandy is busier than ever. She and several other girls are rooters(啦啦队员) for the high school football games. She leads the cheer team in cheering for the school team.
The girls jump up and down together, cheering when the team has played well. When the team is not playing so well, the cheer leaders try to encourage the players. The cheers are usually not long, but it takes a long time to practice shouting together.
Fight team! Fight team! Fight Fight Fight!

Leaving Beijing early on a Wednesday morning in July, my wife and I traveled through some awesome (令人惊叹的) countryside before we arrived in Moscow the following Monday. The first leg took us past the Great Wall and through the grasslands of Inner Mongolia. At the Mongolian Republic border, we had a delay (耽误) while the wheels were changed because the railway gauge is a different size. On our way to the capital, Ulan Baator (乌兰巴托), we saw herdsmen on horseback looking after their cattle. There was a spectacular thunderstorm as we crossed a vast open plain. Later we had a quick tour of Ulan Baator. Next, the train took us into Siberia. After a stop at Irkutsk, a popular holiday resort (胜地), where a tour group left the train, we passed a beautiful lake, the Lake Baikal. Later, we saw some lovely wooden houses in pretty, sunny countryside. This surprised us, as we had imagined Siberia as being covered in thick snow. Over the next few days, we passed through Novosibirsk, Omsk and other cities in the heartlands of the Russian Federation. By now, our body clocks were losing their sense of time. We wanted to sleep and eat at the wrong time! At last we reached Moscow. We were too tired and slept for 16 hours that night. The next day we went sightseeing. We saw the Kremlin and some other great buildings in the Russian capital. Then, all too soon, it was time for us to return to our home in London. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Chinese athlete Liu Xiang, winner of gold medal in the men's 110m hurdles at the Althens Olympics, published his book,I'm Liu Xiang, recently in his hometown of Shanghai.
It seems that many people can't help comparing Liu Xiang with another Shanghai native, basketball giant(巨星)Yao Ming, who also recently published his book,A Life in Two Worlds.Manager Dai,the editor of the book I'm Liu Xiang, explained the differences between the two books as he saw them.Firstly,Yao's book was written mainly for Americans, while Liu's readers will be mainly Chinese.Secondly,A Life in Two Worlds was written in the third person singular(单数)by an American writer who recorded Yao Ming's stories.I'm Liu Xiang was written in the first person and included many articles from his diaries.Lastly, according to Dai,Yao enjoyed the advantage of being born in a sporty, rich family, unlike Liu,who came from a working class family and therefore had to go through greater hardship(艰难)before becoming a world-known athlete. So if you enjoy reading about mental(精神上的)suffering and physical pain, read I'm Liu Xiang. If you want to practice your English, read A life in Two Worlds.
