Reading is very important. World Book Day falls on April 23 every year. It encourages people, especially teenagers, to discover the pleasure of reading. It is also the day to honor (×ð¾´) great writers.

Many countries celebrate (Çì×£) World Book Day. On that day, millions of school children can buy books at a much lower price than usual in any bookstore in England. It has been done every year since 1998. World Book Day is also celebrated in China. Wen Jiabao, Premier of China, is an avid reader. He does lots of reading every day though he is very busy. On World Book Day 2009, he called on (ºÅÕÙ) people to do more reading. Wen suggested that young people should spend more time reading. ¡°Books can not change the world, but people can change the world by changing themselves through reading,¡± he said.

Reading helps us become more knowledgeable and smarter. Reading helps us to follow the latest developments of science and technology (¼¼Êõ). Reading gives us information about other cultures and places in the world. Reading is also one of the most important ways to learn a foreign language like English. We all know that it is difficult to learn everything in the classroom, for example, the ways English people are living and working today can be learnt by reading.

Books, magazines, newspapers and other kinds of reading materials can help us to know more about the outside world. Therefore, it is necessary for us to spend time reading every day.

When our flight left the Orlando airport that Friday morning£¬we were a happy group. After the plane took off£¬it was clear that something was wrong. The plane was bumping up and down. Many travelers£¬including me£¬thought it was just a small problem.

However£¬we did not remain calm for long. Minutes later£¬our plane began going down quickly. Then suddenly£¬the plane climbed higher but that didn't help. The pilot soon made an announcement£¨Í¨¸æ£©.

"Our hydraulic£¨ÒºÑ¹£©system has failed. We will be returning to the airport. Fuel£¨È¼ÁÏ£©will be dropped from the airplane. We want to have as little on board as possible in the event of a bumpy landing.¡±

All around£¬people cried and screamed. Then£¬I heard a calm voice£¬speaking peacefully. A mother was talking to her little daughter.

A picture came into my mind of another little girl who had recently survived a terrible plane crash. Her mother had put her own body over the little girl's to protect her. The mother died. The child was told over and over again that it had not been her fault£¨¹ý´í£©that her mommy had gone away. I hoped this situation would not end the same way The mother said£¬"I love you so much. Do you know for sure that I love you more than anything£¿"

"Yes£¬Mommy£¬"the little girl said

"And remember£¬no matter what happens£¬that I love you always. And that you are a good girl. Sometimes things happen that are not your fault. You are still a good girl and my love will always be with you."

Then the mother put her body over her daughter's and prepared to crash. Luckily£¬the landing was safe at last. I have been deeply impressed by the mother's voice since then.
