Once, there happened a shipwreck(船难). All the people on the ship died except a man. He couldn’t swim. But luckily, he was washed up on a small lonely island with the help of a wooden door. He prayed(祈祷) for God to save him instead of doing something. He watched the sea day and night for help every day. But none seemed to appear.

At last, he felt disappointed. He managed to build a little wooden house to protect himself from the wind and sunshine, and to store his few things such as clothes and tools. But then one day, after looking for food, he arrived home and found his little house on fire. The smoke rolled up to the sky. The worst thing had happened. Everything was lost in the fire. He cried with anger.

“God, how could you do this to me? Why can’t you help me when I need you most?”

He didn’t know what to do and fell asleep with anger and sadness.

Early the next day, however, he was awakened(唤醒) by the sound of a ship that was coming to the island. It came to save him. Luckily, he was saved. On the way home, he asked, “How did you know I was here?” “We saw your smoke sign.” they replied.

It is easy to get discouraged(气馁的) when things are going bad. But we shouldn’t lose heart. Changes and chances are just around us. If we hold on straight to the end, we will see the success and sunshine in our life.
