Life in the future will be different from life today. Between then and now many changes will take place, but what will the changes be?
The population is growing fast. There will be many people in the world and most of them will live longer than people live now.
Computers will be much smaller and more useful, and there will be at least one in every home. And Computer Studies lessons will be one of the most important subjects in schools then.
People will work _______ hours than they do now and they will have _____ free time for sports, watching TV and travel. Traveling will be much cheaper and easier. And many more people will go to other countries for holidays.
There will be changes in our food, too. More land will be used for building new towns and houses for all the people. Then there will be less room for cows and sheep, so meat will be more expensive. Maybe no one will eat it every day. Instead they will eat more fruit and vegetables. Maybe people will be healthier.
Work in the future will be different, too. Dangerous and hard work will be done by robots. Because of this, many people will not have enough work to do. This will be a problem.

Minoru Yamasaki was a well-known American architect (½¨Öþʦ). He was born in 1912 in Seattle, Washington. Minoru went to college to study architecture. Every summer he worked in a fish factory to help pay for college. He slept in a room with 100 other men.

Yamasaki sometimes dreamed about his work. Once he woke up at three o¡¯clock in the morning. He remembered a building that was in his dream. He got up and started to draw.

Yamasaki was different from other architects. His buildings give people a feeling of peace and happiness. Many of his designs have pools of water, flowers, and windows on the roof to let in light. He wanted to give them a place away from the busy ways of modern life.

Yamasaki worked for several companies. But his success began when he started his own company. In 1956, he won the Architect¡¯s First Honor Award for his design of an airport in St. Louis, Missouri. He won two more awards over the next five years. In 1962, he designed the World Trade Center in New York. In 1993, a bomb exploded (Õ¨µ¯±¬Õ¨) in it. But the buildings did not fall down because they had a good design.

Yamasaki had strong opinions about his buildings. They had to be built his way. He refused to change the design of his buildings, even if he lost a job.

Minoru Yamasaki died on Jun,2 1986. He designed more than 300 buildings. People will enjoy the design and beauty of his buildings for a very long time.

Panda Journey

ÈÎÎñÐÍÔĶÁ

Many teenagers in Taiwan are anxiously counting down the days to the arrival of two giant pandas from the other side of the Straits.

A group of 17 animal experts came to Wolong Nature Reserve (ÎÔÁú×ÔÈ»±£»¤Çø) in Sichuan Province. They picked their ideal animals and learned more about artificial breeding ( È˹¤·±Ö³ ), disease prevention and daily care last week.

'I cannot wait any longer to see the lovely animals. I've seen them many times on TV. Maybe 1 will even feed them bamboo shoots with my own hands! Isn't that exciting said Lin Heqian, a Senior student from Private Chunghsin School in Taiwan.

Chen Runsheng is the secretary ¡ª general of the China Wildlife Protection Association. He told the experts that it is a long¡ªterm wish of the mainland to be able to present a panda to

the people of Taiwan. Mainland pandas' resettlement (ÖØа²ÖÃ) and growth in Taiwan will surely bring the people happiness and fun. Chen added.

The selection of giant pandas t, be sent to Taiwan started at the end of August at the Wolong Nature Reserve.

Several zoos are still fighting to become the new home of the two pandas in Taiwan. And the pandas" home had not yet been picked. Taipei Zoo are talking about building them a home there.

The mainland announced its presentation of a pair of pandas to the island in May. But it Kerns that teenagers in Taiwan will still have to wait for half a year. That is because the new enclosure (ΧÀ¸) for giant pandas in Taipei Zoo will not finished until the end of this year, according to Chen Baozhong, president of the zoo.

If everything else goes smoothly, the panda will be on the island next March.
