In his lowest days when few people bought his records, Taiwan singer Steve Chou lived alone in Canada and did little. One day, he passed by a local CD store and heard a song that greatly attracted him. “My heart tells me that music is the thing I truly want to do, not for fame(名誉)or money,” Chou said. That’s how we luckily have such a music genius(天才), who has since then composed(作曲)lots of hits for the pop music charts (排行榜).
“Sometimes we need to get close to nature to look deeply into our souls and see what we really want to follow,” he said.

Chou often gets his music ideas from trips. He has traveled to many places around the world and believes that learning a country’s language is the fastest way of experiencing the culture behind it.
Chou has worked hard on learning English to push forward his music career(事业). He has flown to the UK to attend months-long English training schools three times. There he lives with local families and practices daily conversations.

Something was crying outside. So I went out to see what was happening. A big cat sat by the door. It must run for a long time as it looked tired and dirty. I let it in my house and took out some food; this poor cat ate all, but still looked starving…, so I got my own cats’ fish, and the cat ate that too!
My five-year-old son and eight-year-old daughter were interested in the cat. They bathed (给……洗澡) it and fed it more food. They wanted to keep it. But I didn’t agree. It was not because I didn’t love it. We already had 2 cats and 2 dogs and our house was not big enough to keep more. Another reason was that I thought maybe it got lost. And its owner (主人) must be worried about it. Then I posted notices all over the town in the hope of finding its home. I also bought an ad (广告)time on a radio station. Some time ago I discovered that one of my chairs had a broken leg. I didn't think there would be any difficulty in getting it repaired, as there are a lot of antique (古董) shops near my home. So I left home one morning carrying the chair with me. I went into the first shop expecting a friendly reception(接待). I was quite wrong. The man wouldn't even look at my chair.
The second shop, though slightly more polite, was just the same, and the third and the fourth -- so I decided that my approach must be wrong.
I entered the fifth shop with a plan in my mind. I placed the chair on the floor and said to the shopkeeper, "Would you like to buy a chair?"
He looked it over carefully and said,- "Yes, not a bad chair. How much do you want for it, sir?"
“Twenty pounds," I said.
“OK," he said, "I'll give you twenty pounds."
“It's got a slightly broken leg," I said.
‘'Yes, I saw that, it's nothing."
Everything was going according to my plan and l was getting excited. "What will you do with it?" I asked.
“Oh, it will be easy to sell once the repair is done."
“I'll buy it," I said.
“What do you mean? You've just sold it to me," he said.
"Yes, I know but I've changed my mind. I am sorry. I'll give you twenty-seven pounds for it."
“You must be crazy," he said. Then, suddenly the penny dropped. “I know what you want. You want me to repair your chair."
“You're right," I said. "And what would you have done if I had walked in and said, 'Would you repair this chair for me?"'
“I wouldn't have agreed to do it," he said. "We don't do repairs, not enough money in it and too much trouble. But I'II repair this for you. Shall we say for five pounds?" He was a very nice man and was greatly amused by the whole thing.
