How do children in different countries celebrate their birthdays? Here are some:

In Israel, the birthday child sits in a chair with lots of flowers. The friends and parents will lift (举起) the chair. The times they lift is the birthday child’s age.

In Holland, all the people at the party must cover (覆盖) their eyes with clothes. And then, they look for the presents in the house. The one who finds the present can have it.

In Argentina, girls’ fifteenth birthday is the most important . Parents always have a big party to celebrate. At the party, the birthday girl must dance with her father first, and then the boys.

In India children usually wear white clothes to school. But on their birthdays, children wear colorful clothes to school and give out chocolate to everyone in the class. Their best friends help them do this.

In Denmark, parents always prepare a birthday cake with the national flag on it for their birthday child. And they also put a flag outside their window. It means a child in the house is having a birthday.

Do something for your local environment

In this issue(期号), we look at things we can do for our local environment.

3. Cleaner streets for the town

In the last few weeks, lots of new bins have been placed along the high street in an effort to keep our town tidy. Our community wardens will be patrolling the street and will fine anyone who drops litter. The fine for littering is £100.

4. One green, one brown and one black

Starting this month, we’re introducing a new rule of recycling. Households will be given three bins. The green one is for recyclable rubbish, such as paper, plastic, glass and card; the brown one is for garden and food waste and the black bin is for all other rubbish. New collection time will be announced soon.
