题目内容

One day we invited some friends to dinner. When it was about six o’clock, my wife found that we had little bread. So she asked our five-year-old daughter, Kathy, to buy some.
‘Here’s a dollar,’ my wife said, ‘get two loaves of bread, if they have it. If they don’t have it, get anything. But hurry!’
Kathy hurried off, and we waited and waited. By a quarter past six, all the friends had arrived. But Kathy had not returned. Finally we saw her dancing around the corner with a bright new hula hoop(呼啦圈) whirling(旋转) round her middle.
“Kathy!” her mother cried. “Where did you get that hula hoop, and where is the bread?”
“Well, when I got to the shop, they had sold out all their bread,” answered Kathy. “And you said ‘If they don’t have that, get anything!’”

The story below is a true story that happened in September.
During the month of September, a dear friend of mine lost her husband suddenly in an accident. The tragedy was a great shock to everyone.

We sometimes take our loved ones for granted(当然),and we expect that they will be with us all the time. However, as we all know, life does not work that way and sometimes we get a wake-up call that shocks us and makes us stand back and realize how short life is.
To cheer her up, I tried to imagine if I were in her shoes how I would feel. It was impossible to imagine what she was going through. What words could I say to help her?Sometimes words just can’t express our feelings. Sometimes our actions are much more meaningful than words. So I gave her a hug(拥抱)…
