Could the students from less developed areas in central and western China get the same educational chances as those in big cities in the east Could the children in poor rural (农村) areas develop as well as those in rich cities Maybe the answers were “No” in the past. But now, China is trying to change the situation.

In order to help rural students grow taller and stronger. China’s Nutrition(营养)Improvement Program started in 2011. According to the program, a lot more money was spent improving students’ meals. More than 36 million students from 134,000 primary and junior high schools in poor rural areas have benefited from the program. They are provided with healthy food like eggs and milk from Monday to Friday at school. And the result of a survey shows that the students in those areas are much taller and stronger than before.

It is true that there were differences between less developed areas and developed areas in education before. Recently, The Guideline for Popularizing High School Education(2017-2020) has come out. According to the guideline, above 90%students from all over the country will go to high schools by 2020. What’s more, the schools in central and western areas will get more support to improve their education.

Students from rural and poor areas also get more chances to receive higher education. A special college program makes it possible for more students from those areas to go to key (重点的) colleges and universities. The number will be increased by 10%in 2017.

With the guideline and the programs, we can expect a fairer and more balanced(均衡的) education in the future.

In August, 2012, I visited London with my husband(丈夫) and our two sons Sam and Eric. We spent four days visiting some interesting places and enjoyed ourselves. The fifth day, I wanted to relax at the hotel. But the children didn't like it. So I carefully thought about how we would spend the last day. I read a passage about HMS Belfast in a magazine. In fact, I was not very interested in visiting a warship(战舰), but my sons and their dad liked it. So we decided to go there.

The weather was sunny that day. We left our hotel at 8:00 a.m. It took us about two hours to get to HMS Belfast. Children under 16 were free of charge(免费).The price of the ticket for an adult (成年人) was £14.The warship was very large. We took some photos there. Sam was interested in everything on it and said it was the most interesting place in London.

In our increasingly fast-paced world, most adults do not get the 8-10 hours of sleep every night. Things are even worse for those with young children. A recent study showed that about 26% of parents in the United Kingdom get less than 5 hours of sleep every night. To make tired adults relax for a while, David Lloyd Clubs, a chain of gyms and fitness centers in the UK, has introduced a napping (小睡) class is called “Nap-Ercise”.

As the name suggests, the hour-long group class, as a way to “reinvigorate (使再振作) the mind and improve moods”, does not have any exercise. Instead, clients (顾客) are guided through 15 minutes of light stretching (拉伸) to help them relax. Then, they are encouraged to cuddle (依偎) under the blankets of a comfortable bed, cover their eyes with an eye mask, and take a nap for 45 minutes. With music playing and the room set to the perfect temperature, clients can have the best possible sleep. The class is currently being offered at just one place. If popular, they will be given to more other David Lloyd Clubs.

Although the class sounds like a marketing plan, there might be some science behind it. According to a study done at the Allegheny College in Pennsylvania, participants who took a 45-minute nap in the middle of their day not only help them feel well-rested, but also deal with stress better than those who didn’t. And a different study from the University of California at Berkeley showed that a 45-minute nap in the middle of the day helps to improve learning abilities.
