The Guidance Department(教导处)at Berryville High School has a staff(员工) of eleven teachers. Most of their work is done with the students. But the staff sees a lot of parents, too.

September, the beginning of a new school year, starts rather slowly. Few parents come in. Most of these want to talk about the schedules( 日程安排 ). October brings many problems caused by some students. The youngest climber to reach the top of Mount Qomolangma, hugged (拥抱) his team members and told them he loved them. Then 13-year-old Jordan Romero took the satellite (卫星) phone and called his mom.

“He says, ‘Mom, I’m calling you from the top of the world. I love you!’ I just told him to get home safely,” his mother told the reporters from California. She had been watching her son’s progress minute by minute online.

Returning from Saturday’s success on the world’s highest mountain, at 8,850 meters above sea level, Jordan said when he was interviewed, “Every step I took was finally toward the biggest goal of my life, to stand on the top of the world.” “I was encouraged by a painting in my school of the highest mountains on all seven continents (洲). I want to climb up all of them.” He climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa when he was 9 years old.

Before him, the youngest climber to reach the top of Mount Qomolangma had been Temba Tsheri of Nepal at the age of 16 in 2001.
