It is a fact that people die every moment of every day. However, the deaths of those who have done great work in the public field can be especially shocking and heartbreaking— e1. to those of us who don't know them personally.

On Jan 26, Kobe Bryant, one of the most legendary (传奇的) NBA players in history, died in a terrible a2.. He was 41 years old when a helicopter he was riding in crashed, killing him and eight others, including his 13-year-old daughter Gianna Bryant.

Following Bryant's death, people from all walks of life have s3. respect to the late basketball superstar--not just for his achievements on the court (球场), but also for his personality and the inspiration (激励) he has given to us.

In the basketball world, Bryant ranks (排名) a4. the top players of all time. He entered the NBA directly from high school as a basketball prodigy (神童). He played his whole 20-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers and helped the team win five NBA championships. He was fast, skillful and aggressive (进攻性的), which earned him the nickname Black Mamba, one of the most deadly snakes in the world. That's w5. his competitive philosophy (哲学) is known as the "Mamba mentality".

"Mamba mentality is you're going, you're competing, you're not worried about the end result," Bryant said. "It's all about focusing on the p6. and trusting in the hard work when it matters most."

Off the court, Bryant was known as a successful businessman, an Oscar-winning filmmaker, and a proud father of four daughters.

The fact that Bryant is no longer with us is sad. We'll never see him play in a7. game. But the work he has done will keep inspiring us years after his death.

The other day I was doing some shopping. A man, who was untidy, walked towards a group of us at the checkout(收银台). I heard him talk to the man in front of me, “I don’t want to steal (偷)from this store… would you ______ me some food?”

The man pretended(假装)not to hear him. I waited ______ for my turn to be questioned. but it never came. ______ I asked him, “Can I buy you something to eat?”

He ______ accepted. The man got a bag and began putting samosas (炸三角) in the bag. He stopped and I asked him how many he had got and he replied 10.

The cashier(收银员) looked at me doubtfully(怀疑地) and then added them to ______ order. After I was through, the man said he wanted something to drink, too. The cashier seemed to be keeping a close eye on him. I admitted(承认) I was too, as I didn’t want him to steal nothing ______ ! I told the cashier that if he got a(n) ______ , I’d just pay for it.

Finally, we both ended up leaving the ______ , but he stood right outside holding the samosas in his hands and talking to himself. Or maybe he was talking with ______ who he thought was there. This man’s circumstances(情况)saddened me. How many of the homeless also suffer from a mental (精神的) ______ ? Maybe that’s even what led him to be homeless. I also thought about the watchful eye the cashier and I kept over him. I hoped to meet him again someday. .. maybe we can sit down and have lunch together.
