In 1942, Stephen William Hawking was born in Oxford, England. His parents’ house wasn’t in Oxford. It was in the north of London. But at that time, people thought Oxford was a safer place to have babies because of the Second World War. Stephen’s father was a good doctor. His mother didn’t work.
In 1950, when Hawking was eight years old, his family moved to St. Albans, a town about 20 miles north of London. At eleven, Stephen went to St. Albans School, and then went to Oxford University. There he wanted to study maths, but there wasn’t maths course(课程) in the university. So he studied physics(物理).
In 1988, Stephen’s greatest work A Brief History of Time was published(出版). And people all over the world began to know the greatest physics scientist—Stephen William Hawking.
When he studied math and science at Oxford University, he became unable to speak or breathe(呼吸) without the help of machines. Till now, he can’t move or feed himself. However, he has a wheelchair(轮椅) with a special computer, with it, he can communicate(沟通) with others.
March.14th this year, his death made the world sad. From Stephen Hawking’s unusual experience, we learn that nobody should lose hope.
