For years, it was the same old “one, two, three, four” during group exercises for students at Zhenguang High School in Guangzhou.
Students used to think their exercises were boring. But now, the school’s 700 juniors have a fun, new way to do them.
To get students more interested in exercise, the school asked students to create a set of group exercises for themselves.
Can you guess what kinds of moves the students chose for their new group exercises? Some are like aerobics (健美操), and others are like the Para Para dance.
“The old moves aren’t as relaxing as the new one. The new moves are livelier than the old ones. They are better for juniors.” said li Yanbin, a teacher at Zhenguang.
During breaks or after class, students sometimes talk with their P.E. teachers about their exercise moves. If the students have good ideas, teachers might even make changes to the moves. If the students think one move is too difficult, teachers might practice the move with them together.
Students don’t just get to choose their moves now, they also decide what music to use during exercises. In the past, the music they used was always the same kind. Now, each exercise uses a different song. Students can take their favorite music to school and ask their teachers to use it for exercise. “The music is so strong, you just can’t help but dance to it.” said Xiao Xiao, a 13-year old girl in Junior 1.

Making a gift for someone using your own skills is very special. It is much more meaningful than a store-bought gift and shows how much you care!

Every day when I enter the classroom, I will take a look at the wall beside my seat. You will find nothing special about this old wall if you just look at it. But for the students in my class, it is a special wall. Take a good look at it, and you will get to know the real feelings and thoughts of us, the 9th graders.
In the middle of the wall, there is a big “VICTORY”. It was written in pencil. I guess it must have been written by someone who got a good mark in an exam.
A little higher above the formulas, there is a poem. It only has two sentences. It reads: All those sweet memories have disappeared. Like tears dropping in the heavy rain.
Oh! It must have been written at the end of the last semester in middle school. Classmates had to leave school and good friends had to part. What a sad poem!
If you look at the wall more carefully, you will find many other interesting things, like a crying face, or a happy face, and other patterns(图案). There are still some patterns and letters that I can’t understand, but they all show the feeling of the students who drew them.
For years, the wall has witnessed(目睹) all the things that have happened in the classroom. I don’t know how it will be next year, two years from now, or even ten years from now. But I hope more smiling faces will be drawn on it.
