题目内容

One morning, a blind* boy sat in front of a building with a hat by his feet .He held a sign* which said,“I am blind. Please help me. There were only a few coins in the hat. A man was walking by. He took out a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat .He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words on it. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by could see the new words.
Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were. The boy recognized his footsteps* and ask,“Are you the one who changed my sign in the morning? What did you write?”
The man said,“I only wrote the truth. I said what you said, but in a different way.”
What he had written was,“Today is a beautiful day, but I can’t see it.”
Do you think the first sign and the second sign were saying the same thing?

Of course both signs told people the boy was blind. But the first sign simply told people to help by putting some money in the hat. The second sign told people that they were able to enjoy the beauty* of the day, but the boy could not enjoy it because he was blind.
The first sign simply said the boy was blind, while the second sign told people they were so lucky that they were not blind.
There are at least two lessons we can learn from this simple story.
The first is: Treasure*what you have. Someone else has less. Try your best to help those who need your help.
The second is: Be creative. Think differently. There is always a better way.

Have you ever complained(抱怨)why life is so tiring? Are your studies sometimes not successful? Well, friends, cheer up and smile all the time . If you see the world with your warm heart, you will find that the whole world smiles to you.
While in school, sometimes you are tired of your lessons, but have you ever noticed the happy smile on your teacher’s face when you did a good job?
One day it is fine . Just before you want to go out, it suddenly starts to rain . Maybe you would feel very sad and start complaining about the weather . But dear friends, why don’t you sit down and listen to the free concert that the nature offers you? And with the timely rain, crops in the fields will grow better and better and farmers will have a good harvest .
Although everyone wants to succeed in what he tries to do, sometimes failure can’t be avoided . I think failure(失败) is not terrible, and the terrible thing is that we are afraid of it and give up hope. When someone has deeply hurt you, it can be very difficult to let your anger go off. But forgiveness(原谅)is possible – and it can be surprisingly helpful to your physical and mental health. Indeed, research has shown that people who forgive can have more energy, better appetite and better sleep. “People who forgive show less anger and more hopefulness,” says Dr. Frederic Luskin, who wrote the book Forgive for Good. “So it can help save on the damage to our system and allow people to feel more energetic.”
So when someone has hurt you, cool down first. Take a couple of breaths and think of something that gives you pleasure: a beautiful scene in nature, someone you love. Don’t wait for an apology(道歉). “Many times the person who hurt you may never think of apologizing,” says Dr. Luskin. “They may have wanted to hurt you or they just don’t see things the same way. So if you wait for people to say sorry, you could be waiting a very long time.”
Next keep in mind that forgiveness does not necessarily mean accepting the action of the person who worries you. Mentally going over your hurt gives power to the person who brought you pain. Instead, learn to look for the love, beauty and kindness around you.
Finally, try to see things from the other person’s perspective(看法). You may realize that he or she was acting out of knowledge, fear – even love. To get perspective, you may want to write a letter to yourself from that person’s point of view.
【小题1】What’s the name of Dr. Frederic Luskin’s book?

Long long ago, a king had a big rock placed in the middle of a very busy road. Then he hid nearby to see if anyone would move the rock out of the way to make it convenient for others. Some of the king’s supporters came past and simply walked around it. Many others complained(抱怨) about the rock. To the king’s surprise, no one tried to move it out of the way.
Finally, a poor farmer came along, carrying a load of old vegetables. When he saw the rock, he put down his load, and tried to move the heavy rock to the side of the road. No one stopped to help him. At last, after much pushing and straining, and with no help, the farmer got the rock to the side of the road. As he bent down to pick up his vegetables, he found a small bag lying in the road. There was a lot of money and a note in the bag. The note was from the king. It said that the money was for the person who moved the rock out of the way.
Taking responsibility(责任)is about solving hard problems. The farmer takes responsibility when no one else is prepared to. It does not always mean that you will get a reward(报酬), but it is a value that builds up a community, and makes life better for all of us.
【小题1】Why did the king put a big rock in the middle of the road?

People are always afraid of making mistakes. But sometimes it’s not bad to make mistakes, and here is why.
At first , mistakes are a clear sign that you are trying new things. It’s always good to new things, because when you are trying new things your are growing. If you never try new things , how can you improve ? How can you create? The simple answer is, “ You can’t .” Look around you, everything you see is the result of someone trying new things.
Another good thing about mistakes is this : when your are making mistakes, you are learning. Consider this: Edison failed 10,000 times before he invented the light bulb. When he was asked how he felt to fail that many times, but rather had learned 10,000 things that didn’t work.
Finally , when you make a mistake, you are that much closer to success. Why? Because you have said what you should say, and you have done what you should do. Every time you make a mistake, you are closer to success. But it doesn’t mean that you can make mistakes without thinking. Instead, when you try new things you have to think them over, so that you can keep away from some unnecessary mistakes.
We shouldn’t spend all our time and money on the only one way , but use them correctly. Because our time and money are limited. (有限的)
There is an old saying, “ If you are not making mistakes, you are not trying hard enough.” So go bravely and make mistakes. And learn. And grow. And succeed.

Almost every Chinese person can recite the two lines of the famous poem, “Every grain on the plate comes from hard work(谁知盘中餐,粒粒皆辛苦).” But sadly, many of us don’t actually get the real meaning of these lines: Don’t waste food.
A CCTV program, News One Plus One, reported that the food Chinese people throw away every year is enough to feed 200 million people for a year.
Do we have too much food? Of course not. According to the UN World Food Program, there were 925 million hungry people around the world in 2010, especially in developing countries. Six million children die of hunger every year.
Chinese people are well known for being hospitable(好客的) and generous. Many even feel that they lose face if their guests have eaten all the food on the table.
Luckily, a number of people have realized the importance of saving food. Last November, Li Hong, a waitress in a restaurant in Nanjing, got fired because she took some leftover food home for her son. Many people stood by her side and criticized(批评) the waste of food.
What should we do in our daily lives to waste less food? Here are some tips:
1. Do not order too much in a restaurant. Only order as much as you want to eat. If you cannot eat all the food you ordered, take the rest of it home.
2. Don’t be too picky(挑剔的) about food. Some food may not taste great, but your body needs it.

Xiao Jing, a Beijing girl took home a cup of iced tea for her father after having supper at McDonald’s. But when the father happily started to drink his daughter’s gift, he found that there was a filter tip (过滤嘴) inside it. Xiao Jing and her father got very angry.
This is not the first time that McDonald’s has let Chinese customers down. According to a CCTV program on World Consumer Rights Day(消费者权益保护日) on March 15, a McDonald’s restaurant in Beijing sold chicken wings 90 minutes after they were cooked. The company’s rules set a 30-minutes limit. What’s more, some workers changed desserts’ expiration dates (保质期) or even put them into a new bag or box to sell them again.
McDonald’s China released a letter of apology on their official micro blog (微博) soon after the program. “McDonald’s China pays great attention to this. We will immediately look into this accident, deal with it seriously and take practical actions to apologize (道歉) to consumers. We’ll try our best to provide healthy and safe food,” the letter said.
