More and more people are stepping into the international stage, and we would work with all kinds of
people with different colors of skin at home or abroad. It's good to have your own English name. Here are
the ways to give you an English name.
Generally, you don't change the family name, so you can directly change your first name for an English
one. You choose the one sounds like your native name. For example, someone called Wu Dawei, he may
call his English name David Wu. It's easy for a foreigner to remember you and your name. That's the most
common way to give you an English name.
You can also choose a name according to your nature. If you have a sunny disposition (性情), you like
the fresh air in the morning; Then you may give you a clear or hopeful name such as Catherine, Helen and
Andrew. Besides you can choose your name according to your hobbies. If you like plants, Rose may be
  your name.
Using other country's name is another way, such as Spanish name Emiliano, French name Dacio, or you
  can create a fire-new name.
I hope those suggestions could help you choose a nice English name that may bring you great
convenience or good luck when you communicate with foreigners, and they may also feel easier to call

On Thanksgiving Day, a teacher asked her class of first-graders to draw a picture of something they
were thankful for. She thought that these children from poor families actually had little to be thankful  for.
And she found most of them drawing  pictures of  flowers  or tables  with  food. The  teacher  was  very
surprised to see the picture Douglas handed in. It's a hand, a simple hand.
But whose hand? The class were very interested in the strange picture. "I think it must be the hand  of
God that brings us food," said  one child. "A farmer," said another, "because he grows  beautiful  flowers."
Finally when the others were at work, the teacher went over Douglas' desk and asked whose hand it was. "It's your hand, Teacher," he said quietly and shyly.
She remembered that she had often taken Douglas, a dirty lonely child, by the hand while having a class
break. She often did that with the children. But it  meant so much to Douglas. Perhaps  this  is  everyone's  thanksgiving, not for the material things we get, but for the chance, in whatever small way, to give to
others.
1. Whose hand did Douglas draw?
A.The farmer's.
B. God's.

3. What do you learn about Douglas from the passage?
A. He was a lonely child.

Cats and dogs are both popular pets. Cat owners think that cats are nicer pets in some ways. Cats are
cleaner, first of all. They keep themselves clean, and they do not make the house dirty. Cats are also quieter
than dogs. They usually do not make a lot of noise. Cats are safer, too. Dogs sometimes bite people, but cats
almost never do. Finally, cats are easier to take care of. You do not have to spend much time with a cat. In
fact, many cats prefer to be alone.
Many children want to have a pet. Some parents may not like the idea of a dog or a cat in the house, but
pets can be good for children. A pet is fun for a child to play with. This can be especially important if there is
only one child. Also, children can leam a lot from a pet. They can learn about animals and the natural world.
Children also leam about taking care of something. They cannot forget about their pets. This is an important
lesson for all children.
Most Americans think of cats as pets, but not all cats are pets. Some cats can help people, but others can
be problems. For example, on farms and in old houses, they kill small animals such as rats or mice. However,
some people do not want cats around. They like to watch birds in their yards. Cats may kill the birds or scare
them away. Cats can also be a problem in cities. In Rome, for example, thousands of cats live in the streets
and old buildings. They make a lot of noise, and they are dirty and dangerous.
