Robert, Linda and I were all in the same class when we were in a middle school. And we lived in the same building. Robert and Linda lived on the sixth floor but I was downstairs. We went to school and came back together. And we spent our holiday together, too. Robert and I were friendly to Linda. We helped each other and always enjoyed ourselves.
But five years passed and we got the different posts(职位). Robert works in a factory, Linda teaches English in a school and I'm a doctor. I'm very busy and hardly see the girl. But I know she's even more beautiful than before.
One morning, as soon as I came to my office, I saw Robert sitting in the waiting-room, with a bandaged (扎了绷带的) head. I was surprised and asked him in.
“What's the matter with you, Robert?”
The young man didn't answer me. Instead, he asked,“Don't you know I love Linda?”
I'm the youngest of us all and never notice(注意) it. T had to ask him to tell me what had happened to him.
“She had agreed to marry(嫁) me before we finished middle school,”Robert said sadly.“but now she's changed her mind and sometimes she wouldn't meet me! Last night I sang some love songs outside her window. She threw a flower at my head.”
“But a flower couldn't hurt your head, T think.”
“You're right, Jim,”said the young man.“She forgot to pull it out of the vase(花瓶).”

My mother loves flowers. We live next door to each other, so she often spends much time planting flowers in my garden. In summer, she often makes colourful bouquets(花束) and puts them inside the houses-both hers and mine.
One year, shortly before Christmas, a local flower shop offered an activity for mothers in each month of the next year. It seemed to be a great way to thank her for all of the flowers she had given me through the years. I couldn't wait the new year so that I could give a bouquet to her!
After the Christmas, in early January, I drove her to the flower shop to pick up her first month's bouquet. But then we found the bouquet would hardly fill a small vase(花瓶).
I was so embarrassed(尴尬的). "Mum, I'm sorry," I told her. "I didn't know how skimpy that bouquet was." She looked at me and smiled. "It's okay," she said optimistically (乐观地). "It allows me to enjoy the beauty of each one better."
I was amazed at what she said. It helped me realize something more important —we often fail to enjoy the beauty of each thing when we have too many good things. I understood that less is sometimes more.
